SPR: ParaGard users come in please!
I am planning on getting the ParaGard inserted next month. I think I am done having children, but dont want to do anything permanent since I'm only 30 and dont want to regret it later on. I like that it is long-term and hormone free. If you use it or have used it, can you please tell me how your experience has been? I dont personally know anyone who has used it and want to make sure I am making the right decision. Also, can you tell me what to expect when I get it put in? Is it really painful??
If you dont feel comfortable posting here, please FM me!!
THANKS

Re: SPR: ParaGard users come in please!
I just had mine placed. It didn't hurt at all. I am still having bleeding- almost like a light period. No cramping.
According to my OB it could make periods more heavy and painful. She was recommending the Mirena but I'm really concerned the hormones would mess with my milk supply. I'll be having surgery to either tie my tubes or remove my uterus within the next few months, so I chose the Paraguard.

Re: SPR: ParaGard users come in please!
I went in yesterday to get the paraguard....my OB (who is nursing as well) talked me into the mirena...she said the hormones in it only stay in the area of the iud, they don't go throughout the whole body like the pill. She said it's such a misconception and so many women veto the mirena because of it (it's why I didn't want it, I wanted to hormones).....but the paraguard has a worse reputation for making periods brutal.
It was a 2 minute procedure, and no real pain just like a long pap.
I will let you know in a couple weeks how I am doing with it!

Re: SPR: ParaGard users come in please!
I've had Paraguard for almost a year and LOVE it. Yeah, my periods are ridiculously heavy (they were heavy before I had my son, though, so I don't know anything else) but I like that I really don't have to think of anything BC wise, KWIM?
The insertion was relatively painless and unless I'm reminded that it's there, I honestly forget about it.

Ditto! I've had the Mirena for 4.5 years now. The last thing I needed was heavy periods, so I chose not to get the Paraguard. With the Mirena, I hardly get a period at all. I love that aspect, plus not having to remember anything.

Re: SPR: ParaGard users come in please!
I hated it. I had extremely heavy periods with horrible, horrible cramps while I had it in. If I go IUD route again, I will do mirena.
