SPR: Babymoon & Pricing: FEEDBACK NEEDED

Hi everyone. So my husband and I are desperate for one last vacation before this baby comes. I looked on the LIF travel site and got interested in going to the Dominican Republic.

There is a resort that is highly recommended called Iberostar Punta Cana... it sounds like the most reasonably priced all-inclusive. Has anyone ever been there? Feedback would be awesome.

So I figured that the all-inclusive resort+ airfare for Monday(arrive) thru Friday(leaving) is $1554. What do you think? Is this too expensive? good price? We've only been to one other all-inclusive for our honeymoon so we are not experienced when it comes to prices.

ETA: I would be about 26 weeks along (May 24th -28th)

Also, Is there any other island that you ladies know of that could be cheaper than this?

Thanks in advanceChat Icon

Does that include both of you? If so, I think it's an excellent price!

It's really hard to find somewhere cheaper than Dominican Republic, it's still one of the best deals around.

My two cents, even though I don't think you were asking for it... personally, I wouldn't want to go to an all-inclusive for a babymoon:

1. I'm a big drinker so missing out on that would make me sad Chat Icon
2. The food at MOST AIs is only so-so. Since i wouldn't be getting any pleasure out of drinking, I would want the food to be top notch and you aren't going to get that at an AI
3. I love DR, we went there every year... and I'm not a HUGE pregnancy worry-wart, but keep in mind it is a third world country with sub-par medical care.. if something were to happen, I wouldn't want to deal with a dr or hospital there.
4. I think the heat would get to me after a little while...

But, again, that's just me and my (unsolicited) opinion....

Yes, $1,554 for the all-inclusive hotel+airfare. 5 days, 4 nights... good?

YES! that price is for both of us! I know what you mean about it being all-inclusive and not being able to drink BUT im not a drinker by any means.

I would want the food to be good though, so do you think if we go to a regular hotel and pay for 3 meals a day it would still stay within this range?

Also, what months did you go to DR. If we go we would go in end of MAY. I checked online and they said avg. temp= 80-85. I would def. stay in the shade.

Thanks for all your help!

Sounds like a great price!!!
I stayed at the Iberostar Grand in the Riviera Maya and it was A M A Z I N G!! I would look into that one as well... airfare to Cancun is much cheaper than DR and there is so much to do there! Let me know if you need more info - that would be a great babymoon location!

could not agree more on all points.

i don't know of that particular resort, but if that price is for both of you, that seems a steal (at least on paper).

We always went in February, so I'm not sure about May. I'm a whiney poopy pants in heat and humidity so 80-85 would keep me in my air conditioned room Chat Icon

Hmm... to fly anywhere is going to cost you $600 minimum, so to stay in that range for hotel + meals will definitely be tough, if not impossible (especially if you include drinks for DH). I'm sure you could find SOMETHING you will enjoy eating.. I'm just a nerd and if I'm on vacation and can't drink, I better be eating some good stuff!

We are driving to the Outerbanks in early June for our babymoon, will probably spend ~$1k for 4 nights with food + gas, so your deal is VERY excellent.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer but I have been to the DR 3 different times...3 different AI's each time...and food was disgusting at each one of them...borderline inedible! We lived on pizza and fries...literally ate nothing else. Stay away from fruits and salads which they wash in their water which can get you sick!

I'd do an AI for babymoon...just not in DR. Check out Playa del Carmen Mexico...or even Cancun. Or Bahamas.

HTH.

A majority of the AI resorts (esp the biggies like Iberostar) have their own water purification systems that they use to wash food, dishes, etc. with so shouldn't be a huge issue.

I would be cautious of how well they cook their meats and how long they leave them out for...

Where in OBX are you staying? We've been a few times but usually rent a huge house with 10-15 people.

I would love recommendations for just me & DH, or me, DH, & DS.

It's just the two of us, so we have been searching high and low for a hotel (a rarity in OBX!) as opposed to a rental...

We were all set on the Hampton Inn because of the reviews it got on Trip Advisor, but the price doubled in the past couple of weeks.. so instead we're staying at a Best Western down there. it's not the Ritz Chat Icon but it's all suites so it has a living room and kitchenette which seemed important since we won't be out at a bar all night long...

Going the second week in June, I can let you know how it is....
