SPR - beaches that aren't very crowded on weekends
The beach post got me thinking we haven't been to the beach as a family at all this summer.
So any smallish, low-keyish, beaches that aren't overly crowded on weekends. We don't need much, just clean sand, clean water and a convenient parking spot. We are right by coney island, but its crazy crowded on weekends. We don't mind to drive a bit out (up to 1.5 hours from the city)
Please suggest a beach

We like to walk on the boardwalk at Jones Beach but we go to Lido Beach (near Long Beach). Residents of Nassau County (town of hempstead) pay $6.50 per car and non-residents pay about $20-25 per carload. It's a great beach. There is a playground for the kids and a little water spay park area which we will hopefully be using for the first time this weekend!

We like to walk on the boardwalk at Jones Beach but we go to Lido Beach (near Long Beach). Residents of Nassau County (town of hempstead) pay $6.50 per car and non-residents pay about $20-25 per carload. It's a great beach. There is a playground for the kids and a little water spay park area which we will hopefully be using for the first time this weekend!
Let me ask you....I always go to long beach....how do I get to Lido from Long beach. Do I continue on Park Ave?

ah ok. so what you would do is make a left (East) on to the Avenue and Lido Beach probably about 2 miles down. Right by Marvel Ice Cream.

i used to go to lido all the time. its nice and small. sometimes ill go to point lookout. its just as nice and clean.
