I think Apple really stands behind their products. I think it's fine. Is it a significant savings?

the shuffle is $39.00 (reg $80)
the nano is $99.99 (reg $149)
they also have the touch I think discounted $50

i replied to your other ipod post - but I'd feel comfortable getting it through apple. Just make sure you ask what sort of warranty or coverage will be provided and for how long.

I can tell you that when I worked for a MAJOR kitchen electrics company
refurbed items were fine- they were normally just used for a meeting or a tradeshow
or the packaging was damaged
nothing was "wrong" with it

yup!! my sister just got a refurbished IPOD mini from the apple store and has no problems with it!!
and im about to do this also.. my battery is just dying..so im bringing it back and getting a new one.

sure. I got some stuff that was refurb. from the sony store and it is great. FYI.. the sony people told me that any return (opened or unopened) is a refurb. So the stuff in the store may have never been used. I don't know if it is the same for Apple. But I would buy it.

Both my Ipods (nanos) were/are refurbished (I lost the first one on vacation) and I never had a problem with them. DH's is refurb also. For that kind of product I think it's fine.

Sometimes Apple will send out "like new" IPODS as refurbs. Like they are pretty much NEW condition and you would never know they were refurbs.
Just watch out though, a lot of stuff in the Apple Refurb Store are the last generation iPods.
Not that big a deal, but just make sure when you are comparing price (refurb vs. new) you are comparing apples to apples when it comes to features and storage space.
