Spinoff...if you don't have Upromise...
I highly recommend getting it.
If you aren't familiar, you basically sign up and it allows you to automatically save for DC's college, either by linking credit cards or using companies that give a percentage for each purchase.
On gasoline alone I've earned $20 in the last couple months without even trying.
It also allows you to invite your family to participate (all my family has their credit cards linked to Logan's account) AND link to a 529 Account.
It's a great no-brainer way to save for college.

Re: Spinoff...if you don't have Upromise...
I signed up for it a looong time ago, but I have only one card linked... the fine print freaked me out... they use it to track everything you buy, your spending habits, and then sell the info...
So I have a question - do you get tons of junkmail and/or calls because of it? Because I'd like to use it more - really, and I know my mom would contribute, but I don't like that aspect of it...

I've had my acct for years and I do not receive junk mail or calls from upromise or other solicitors. Between my spending and DS' uncles and aunts we collect almost $200/quarter!

Re: Spinoff...if you don't have Upromise...
I totally agree, plus my only credit card I have is the Upromise one, so everything I put on my credit card, I get 10% of it invested into Jacob's Upromise account every month on top of all the other times you get money...
If you buy on online go through Upromise because most of the major sites are partners with Upromise-- Gap, children's place, Amazon, etc and they always give great percentages....

Wow - that's decent. I didn't think I stood to make that much... it might be worth sacrificing some privacy...
This is the part that freaks me out btw:

Re: Spinoff...if you don't have Upromise...
I've never gotten any junk mail from them or any problems at all.
I've been doing it for my nephew for years (but I cut him off when DS was born. )
I activated my account for Logan in June and we already have over $200 in there for him that I roll into a 529 once a quarter.

Re: Spinoff...if you don't have Upromise...
I had a replacement CC last year, and another one this year (different account #s). After this recent card, I realized that I never put in my other card, so I wasn't earning points for the last year or so... I'm back on the earning track again, though.

Do you have to open a Citi UPromise credit card or is there another way to do it?

No. I don't have a UPromise credit card.
I have all the credit cards I currently own linked to it and when you use a linked credit card at a participating Upromise company.
There are TONS of companies that participate (Exxon, Eddie Bauer, 1-800 Flowers, Terminex, Avis, etc.)

Yeah, me too. I signed up in 2005 and I accumulated $30 so far!! I've really only gotten credit for gas and groceries. I forget to visit UPromise before I shop online. Also, my parents and ILs have several other grandchildren--I can't ask them to save for my kids only.
