on the weekend really. I have no time during the week! If it is messy I don't care. I would rather spend time with my child!

There's my answer.

We try to straighten up and clean every now and again....but we only do a really really good cleaning when people are coming over.
There's just no time to do it! During the week, we get home, eat dinner, put her to bed and then do whatever needs to be done.
On the weekends, she naps for about 45 minutes in the car, and the rest of the time she's running around insisting we play with her...which we do!

It's not my ideal cleaning schedule, but we'll clean the house eventually....

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

I;ve been back to work for 2 weeks and the most I have done is sweep. DH is pretty good about trying to clean up one day on the weekend. I honestly don't have time or energy to clean.

i refuse to have a filthy house. unfortunately it's genetic in my family.
i am obsessed. hate clutter and linty rugs, anything like that. SO with that said i use my lunch hour to run home from work and i do something different each time-throw in laundry, vacuum, dust, do floors, change sheets-whatever.i get a lot done!
i am very lucky to be able to do this, but on the flip side i never get a peaceful lunch hour i guess. i use an evening after DD is in bed for bigger jobs like the bathroom, but that's it. i won't clean on weekends really. i hate using my weekends w/ DD and DH to clean!

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

Clean? Ha! What's that? The most I have time to do is the dishes and the laundry. But my hours are probably a lot different than most Mommies... I get up at 6:30am with DD, am at home with her until 2pm when I leave for work. I get off from work at 12am and get home at 12:50am. I wash whatever dishes/bottles are in the sink, maybe fold some laundry, take out the dog and am in bed by 1:30am. Whew! I get tired just writing that out!! Chat Icon

The best thing about our nanny (3 days/week) is that she keeps our house tidy and clean. I seriously don't know what I would do w/o her ... likely have a very untidy and unclean house. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

I clean all the time. Seriously... I feel like I am always picking up something or wiping down another thing.

I do have a housekeeper that my boss pays for so he doesn't feel too guilty about my 46 hour work weeks.. and Rob always pitches in... but there is still ALWAYS more to do.

The funny thing? My house is STILL a mess! ALL THE TIME!

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

Daily- I can not stand a messy home, since having children I have OCD when it comes to cleaning.
I vacuum everyday, clean the bathroom everyday and kitchen is always spotless. in the am beds get made right away, during day dishes get rinsed and right into dishwasher, DD makes a huge mess all day long too. I just keep up after her when I am home and noticed when I am not home and she is with the sitter she doesnt make a mess or the sitter is straightening up too. we make a game of cleaning up too so we spend that time together doing it, I do the other cleaning before she wakes or like vaccuming when she wants to watch her show. bathroom is easy 123 since I do it everyday. I even do laundry too, throw in loads during playtime too. fold either when DH comes home or if she takes a nap.
You can def find time to clean. I have 2 children 2 and 15 weeks old, work 4 days a week and have plenty of time for my girls too.
its how you manage your time.
and you never know when someone just pops over too.

edited to say sat is when I do the knicknacks, mirrors, wood trims and moldings ( yes I have ocd LOL) all pictures and wall pictures. but since I do a daily clean there is hardly any dust so it takes no time at all.

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

If I didn't have a cleaning lady I would be scared to see what this place would look like.

Sometimes I come home for lunch and pick up and do a few basic things as the PP poster does. But there's always something to pick and and clean. Chat Icon

Never.

Although I do take Noah out on the weekends for playdates/parties etc and my husband stays home and cleans. He is better at it than me.

I do clean up in the evenings after dinner etc, and I clean the bathroom on a Saturday morning...but in general, we are crap at cleaning up.

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

I felt like that was all I was ever doing especially on the weekends so I finally got a cleaning lady and it really takes so much stress off me. I still have to do things in between the times she comes, but the big things she does.

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

During the week I only clean up toys, wash stuff in the kitchen, maybe do 1 load of laundry. The rest of the stuff like vacuuming and dusting I do on the weekends.

Little stuff I do everyday.. like vacuuming, picking up toys, wiping down bathrooms. I only have 2 days off during the week so I try and do the more annoying stuff those days.

Weekends usually. Or it clean in little pieces - like one night I'll wash the kitchen floor or bathroom floors, next day clean the sick, and so on.

Thank God for my cleaning lady! She does the big stuff every other week and I try to maintain little things during the week, with mixed results.

same with us. I clean on sundays mostly. But i do try to keep things tidy during the week. My husband isn't the greatest at tidying up each day while he's home with ds. But like you said... i can't complain because he's watching Jacen and does a great job.

Not that my house gets really messy because it really doesn't. Mostly the kitchen because my husband cooks and is a messy cook. Chat Icon

So i give it a good cleaning on sunday for the most part.

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

Since DH is home during the day, he will straighten the kitchen and do laundry/vaccuming while DD and I are not home before he goes to bed. At night or on the weekends I try to make sure the place isn't a wreck - but I gave up long ago on knowing I'm going to have a clean place.

My sister is taking DD overnight so I can get some rest and all I plan on doing is dusting and real nitty gritty cleaning!

A clean house makes a happy mommy, LOLOL! Every night I do something, dust, vacuum, windex, bathrooms, throw in load of laundry. Every morning after I am done getting ready, I wipe down the bathroom with Clorox wipes. After dinner, I wipe down the kitchen with the wipes as well. On the weekend, I "really" clean everything. It doesn't take much time on the weekends, because I maintain during the week.

ETA: my cleaning lady comes every other week and she actually joked with me and said that she looks forward to coming to my house, LOL!

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

I clean on the weekends, usually on Sundays. I don't do the entire house, just the rooms we spend the most time in. I will do a deep cleaning (wiping down walls/baseboards, scrub floors, etc....) when we have company.

Our house is definitely lived in. It's not super clean, but it's tidy most of the time now.

Re: Spinoff: Working moms & cleaning

Full time working mom = part time maid to clean my house.

We have cut back on ALL our expenses but this. She is relatively inexpensive (she only comes twice a month) and very much worth it. Before we had her, I would spend Sat. morning cleaning while DH got to go to the park with my DD. Once I told him we would switch off each Sat to clean, suddenly he got a maidChat Icon

I generally then clean up when needed- usually during bath time, which DH does. Then I vaccuum, clean floors, and dust plus pick up toys. No heavy cleaning...
