Spinoff to "Who Babysits?"
Am I the only one that uses babysitters?
My mom occasionally watches them, but has her own things going on and my IL's will only watch DC at THEIR house 30 minutes away ... so we have babysitters. We had a live in for a while, but now use a girl who was an au pair that was friendly with our au pair. I trust her and my kids love her.
I'm just so surprised that there was no mention of babysitters that were not family on the entire thread.
Maybe we should print this out for our parents!

Re: Spinoff to "Who Babysits?"
Lea, I honestly would love to have a non-family babysitter that I trust...it's just so hard to find someone!!
I've asked my neighbors for recommendations...but it often turns into a conflict, b/c invariably, when I need the popular neighborhood sitter, so do the neighbors!
Does your babysitter have any other trustworthy friends?

Nope, I have sitters. My mom isn't around and my DH's parents are elderly.

Re: Spinoff to "Who Babysits?"
We have our first non-family babysitter coming next Friday. I do not trust anyone basically, so we've avoided it, but we found someone we love. She was an assistant teacher at DD's daycare and now goes to college full-time. She is the most amazing person with kids.
Now I'm just wondering what to pay her..... she will put DD to sleep (I will bathe & feed her before), then sit around and watch my big screen HDTV for a few hours. I s $10/hour plus a little extra reasonable?? 5:45-about 10 pm = $50??
That's another reason we haven't used a sitter- too expensive!

I would love to find a babysitter (aside from daycare). My parents are in Staten Island, so they can only babysit on weekends.

$50 sounds exactly right.

Re: Spinoff to "Who Babysits?"
We are working on one right now (found one, just need to actually have her over). I have nothing against using one, I just didn't know how to go about finding someone.
For long nights out, like weddings - we'll probably still have family to babysit so it won't be so !!!

Re: Spinoff to "Who Babysits?"
I wish I could find someone, honestly don't even know where to begin looking. Don't know a lot of people with young children in my area and wouldn't trust a younger high school child with my 6.5 month old son....I so wish I had one thoguh as our parents are about a half hour away to. Just even for once a month or something to have an evening out. Any recommendations on how to find someone?
