Spinoff to the Westchester posts
I grew up on LI but know little to nothing about Westchester, although my DH recently started a job in White Plains.
How does White Plains compare with LI (house prices, safety, amenities). If we ever moved there, it would need to be very close to the Metro North station because my job is in NYC.
Exploring my options down the road (and whether we would consider moving to Westchester in a few years)
Are there any other areas easily accessible to NYC that are also accessible to White Plains?

Re: Spinoff to the Westchester posts
I live in White Plains and love it! It's about a 40 minute express train to Grand Central. And about 30 minute drive into the city. We have tons of restaurants and bars to choose from. For the very most part, WHite Plains is very safe. Of course there are some neighborhoods that aren't so great, but that's true for any bigger suburban city. Pricing costs vary alot aroud here- you can get coops starting at $100K and then private houses can cost up to $750k. It really depends on what you're looking for. My SIL recently bought a house in North White Plains- walking distance to the train. She paid $375K for a 3 bedroom, craftsmen style house. It's not very big, but I absolutely love it! Plus it's Valhalla schools, which is even better then White Plains. And of course there are lots of smaller neighboring towns. If you have any specific questions, I'll do my best to help. I grew up in Harrison and DH grew up in White Plains, so we're pretty familiar with the area.

I moved to Westchester this past summer...over all I do love it! I am from LI so there are some differences that I had to get used too but nothing big at all. Its a very central place..hop, skip and jump to NYC, CT,NJ and close to home yet still far away I think you would like it here if you decide to move over here!
