Spinoff to "teeth coming in"

How long did your DC teethe for before a tooth broke through? I always thought teething was an extended period of time but I was reading online that it's supposedly like 3-5 days before a tooth comes in.

Also how old was your DC when they got their first tooth?

ETA: DS is almost 4 months and is knawing on his hand NONSTOP! I can't help but think it's teething.

I heard an extended time too. DS definitely has fits when his gums are hurting, which I attribute to teething, but no teeth have broken through and he's just about 5.5 months.

I don't know that I believe in "teething", at least with my two. My kids never really acted differently when teeth were cutting, except for when my DD got her two year molars. Those were a sloooooow, painful nightmare for her.

Both kids would just literally wake up up with a tooth cutting and within no time the tooth was out. I don't even think they noticed.

DD got her first tooth when she turned 1. DS is turning 1 next week and has a mouthful of teeth, he got his first one around 4 months.

Re: Spinoff to "teeth coming in"

My son was teething at 8 weeks old. Confirmed by the pedi. Swollen/red gums, drooling, could see the teeth below the gums. He didn't cut his first tooth until he was 6 months old!!! and then a week later the other one popped in. But it took another 6 months for his top 2 teeth to come in. He was a little over 3 when he got his last second year molar!

He started to get fluid in his ears at 6 months when the teeth were coming in. Every time he cut a tooth, he had major fluid buildup in his ears! Last until he was 3!

Her bottom teeth took about 2 months to really come in and her tops just started whites about 2 weeks ago but haven't dropped yet.

Re: Spinoff to "teeth coming in"

DS began teething (whites showing, drooling, irritable) two days before he turned 3 months. Two bottom teeth broke through at 4 months 12 days, which also brought about the worst diaper rash I've ever seen.

Ds was teething at 2 months or even prior. Constantly biting on his hands, my fingers, drooling. At 4 months and a week or so the teeth cut. The week before he screamed for a day and a half like he has never done ever and had a fever. At the time we thought it was that so we were relieved when we saw them cut. Every baby is so different.

DD cut her first tooth at 8mo and now at 15mo, she has 12, they've all come out pretty quickly after the first one.

She was slightly crankier and drooled more about a day or two before the first tooth cut through and then for about 3 hours when the tooth cut, she was freaking out, screaming and crying. We couldn't figure out what was wrong until I felt the tooth. Then the next 7, she didn't make a peep, we just noticed she had more teeth. It's like she "understood" what that pain was, so she didn't freak out about it. The same thing happened with her molars. She got 1 molar and was out of control for a few hours as it cut through. Then two weeks later, the other 3 molars all cut at the same time and I only noticed because I was dancing with her, she laughed, and I saw them in her mouth. We had no clue she had cut three more teeth!

At 3-4 months, both of my kids started their "oral phase". They stuck everything in their mouths.

MIL SWORE this was teething.

Except for, both kids got teeth at 11 months. Yep, 8 MONTHS later. Neither had any symptoms.

So, it was BS. Kids just go through an oral phase & for mine, this was at 3-4 months.

My sister has a baby that is 8 months old. No teeth yet... everyone says she's been teething for 5 months now.

DD teeths for weeks too. Her fingers are constantly in her mouth. She's cranky but doesn't break a fever.
