Spinoff to Saving dogs from being eaten
Forgive me for my ignorance but what is the difference between one part of the world eating some animals and others eating another animal. I saw the petition for saving the dogs in China and I get this particular event is horrible. However, why can we eat cows and pigs and chickens and others can't eat dogs. I feel ridiculous writing this as a dog owner but I am genuinely curious and want to know what I am missing.
I also eat beef, chicken, and fish.

Re: Spinoff to Saving dogs from being eaten
The outrage lies in the fact that these animals are part of a festival where they are going to be beaten to death or skinned alive and eaten...to a type of animal that most people consider to be a pet, family member, and/or best friend.
These things happen in factories here too, to the more mainstream animals that are used for meat. We just don't hear about it unless we delve into research.
I'm glad that there is outrage over this festival (though it still occurred, despite the petitions) and I hope that people who read up on it consider the source of the food on their plate. It's exactly why I went vegetarian over twenty years ago - because I was unable to value the lives of my cats more than the lives of the chickens, cows or pigs on my table.
