Spinoff to my biting post - an annoyance at a teacher... long....

This is NOT his classroom teacher - I like her...

There is this older hysterical woman there who is a floater, and although she has lied about things in the past, and isn't my favorite person, I try very hard to deal with her.

I saw Cailen getting ice by the teacher I do like, she told me what happened, showed me where he was bitten. I was ok with it, there was no mark. She didn't tell me who it was because thats the policy, but I already knew...

I walk into the class several minutes before the teacher, and I see the older woman talking to the biter's grandma. The older woman points to Cailen and says, "thats the child..."

I say as nicely as I can, "You aren't supposed to say anything...."

She starts stammering, "No, I was telling her how much they like to play together, and this is one of his friends."

Total lie. Now the grandma and I are in the most awkward position ever. THEN the teacher walks in, and asks the older woman, "Did you tell her what happened?"

Now the older woman is snagged. She says, "Yes. I told her he was very aggressive today..." which also was so inappropriate.

The grandma leaves. The teacher asks, "Did you tell her that he bit someone? He wasn't aggressve all day, he just had that one incident..."

now the older woman is trying to back pedal.

I say, "You obviously told her Cailen was the one he bit because you pointed to him whe we walked in the room AFTER you told her he was aggressive."

Then she says, "Don't start! Don't start with me!"

I ignore her, and then she says, "I'm confused! I'm so confused now... I don't know what I said." which is her MO

She went and told the supervisor that she MAY have told a grandmother who her grandson bit.

What annoys me is that this is a strict policy, and she violated it and lied to me. She has lied to me in the past and I really am not comfortable with her being involved with my child. I know the daycare has her because they are desperate for coverage, but I don't know what to do now. I'm thinking of writing a letter about what happened.

What bothers me is this - what else does she violate and lie about to cover her a s s?

Am I over reacting because I already don't lke her based on other things she has done?

IMO both teachers were very inappropriate. NEITHER should have spoken about this while you were there. And BOTH did

When DS was in daycare we had a problem with an assistant also. We did not feel she was up to par.

We talked to the director SEVERAL times. We did not let it go. We told her we did not trust her with DS, etc...

If you feel strongly about it and don't trust her with DC, you need to talk to someone. Nobody will know your discomfort if you don't speak up.

I know - the classroom teacher was subtle though - she just whispered "Did you tell her?" The other woman was the one that brought it out into the open....

I would definitely bring it up to the director. I had an issue (albeit different one) with an assistant who fed Hannah food off the school menu (I provide ALL food because of her allergy). I walked in on her feeding it to her and she played stupid, denied it was her, etc.

I felt extremely uncomfortable with this woman ever watching my child because there are signs and pictures of each child with an allergy and instructions on how to feed. She totally ignored it or wasn't paying attention.

I spoke to the director about it and other things I noticed and she was moved to another room and eventually let go when other parents had other issues with her.

OK I rambled off about something else, but my point is definitely talk to the director (and other parents to see if they have the same issues) because they can't make appropriate changes if nobody speaks up.

Ditto. Obviously this woman can't be trusted & I wouldn't want her around my child.

Liza, I would be LIVID, absolutely livid. I think you really need to speak to the Director of your school and demand that they find an alternative floater for Cailen's room.

Re: Spinoff to my biting post - an annoyance at a teacher... long....

My biggest thing is honesty and if I don't have that with the daycare teachers then we have a big problem.

At Lucas' old daycare we had a lot of incidents...some small that I may have let slide and two really big ones..

One happened before we decided to leave when the biting problems were starting - I came to pick Lucas up and he had yet another bite. I pointed it out the the assistant who first told me no I was mistaking it for the other one he received Chat Icon so I pointed both out...then she proceded to claim he bit himself - fortunately teeth tell a story and the top teeth marks made it impossible for him to do it ...long story short...next day I have an incident report in my hand with the time the reason...Chat Icon somehow she knew the info a day later and even told the director she told me what happened...pointed it out to me. Needless to say she was taken out of the room but not the center. Fine for me.

Worst situation was the head teacher. The last time Lucas was bitten (#6) he apprently hit a child and was put in the crib to be punished...straight from the head teacher's mouth. The child that bit was not separated in anyway. So only Lucas gets punished - the biter acted well before Lucas' hit. I went off and told the director who apologized and agreed that it was against policy. Next day she must have spoken with the teacher because the teacher calls me at work to tell me that while she said it she didn't mean it. She was nervous and just said it. Chat Icon

Sorry to ramble and go off on your post.

But I wanted to say how I do understand about the lying. It's hard to lose trust. On the one hand Cailen's teacher is obviously very good and you like her a lot so that says something good about the environment. Clearly it's this one woman and maybe it would help to voice your concerns to the director.

I would voice my concern to the director. Cailen is in an otherwise great environment. I wouldn't want one person to spoil it.
