spinoff to godparents

Is it possible to have 2 godmothers instead of 1 godmother and 1 godfather? I planned on asking my older sister to be the GM and my DH recently told me he may want his sister to be the GM. I only have one male option for a GF on my side and it's not even an option I ever intended to choose.

I wish.... but I'm 95% sure the answer is no.

the godparents should mimick the real parents.... a mom and dad figure

Do you plan to have other children? My DH and I are debating two women for our godmother and plan to ask one this time and one next.

Re: spinoff to godparents

It isnt proper according to the church. My SIL actually did this with her first child. The church told her that she couldnt have both her brother and my DH as GodFathers. She did it anyway. My DH's name is the only name on the Baptisim Certificate so in the churches eyes her DS only has one GodParent. (My SIL is a Roman Cahtolic)

I have not asked the church yet, I'm Catholic, but I was kinda hoping DH would change his mind. The sister he's talking about is his half sister who he hardly ever sees and is 18.

We do plan on having other children. Both my DH and I are only children from our parents first marriages, but have step and half siblings that are not of the same faith or are very young in age. Also, I have a shortage of males on my side who are practicing catholics.

My SIL had 2 godmothers and 1 godfather, so i don't see why not (she's catholic).

Just ask your priest! I think it's becoming more common these days! Chat Icon

Re: spinoff to godparents

You can ask as many people as you want to be godparents but you can only list one male and one female on the baptism certificate.
You only need ONE person to be honest. You do NOT need a male and female. You can have just one confirmed catholic on the certificate.
You might have to ask your DH to have your friend and explain why it means so much to you.

With at said my sister and I were asked to be my nephew's godmother because they did not want to choice one of us over the other. Only one is listed on the certificate, which is my sister. And of course, she is not confirmed nor is the godfather so they basically have an invalid baptism but they didn't care.
