How did you handle if your dc was very upset about the fact that the new baby isn't the same sex..

We didn't have that issue because they're close together but I would just push the "you're a big sister no matter what" - otherwise you can say the pre-school saying of " you get what you get, & you don't get upset". If that doesn't work, tell them it's Daddy's fault.

Also, no matter what, I tend to find that the older sibling generally wants whatever the opposite of what you get. He/she will get over it!

my dd used to always talk about her baby sister when I was pregnant (with a boy )...I even asked her what she wanted to name him and she said "sister"
she got over it, she loves her brother so much
