Spinoff to car...3-child families!
If you have 3 children who need to be in car seats/booster seats, what kind of car do you drive? What do you love about it? What do you not love about it?

Re: Spinoff to car...3-child families!
One of my concerns is how easy it would be for the 3rd child to get into the 3rd row.
Obviously with a mini-van it won't be such a problem, since there is space to get back there.
My sister had an Armada SUV and it was impossible to get back there. I don't want Emily to have to climb over the seat. And I'd like to be able to get back there also to check that she is buckled up properly, even though she is 6 and for the most part can buckle her booster seat on her own.

I can only speak for the Sienna , but with mine- we make the middle row captains seats and my DS (who I believe is close in age to your DD, almost 6?) gets back there with ease...he can buckle himself in (he is still in a 5pt harness booster) ...I would imagine that if a child were not of the age to buckle themselves it could be tricky, but if they can its a cinch

same here!! my DS gets in and buckles his booster but i always check it b/c he is not so great at it yet and it is easy for me to get back there with the middle row as 2 captains chairs

I have 3 friends with younger kids that have minivans. They put their kids in via the hatch, they claim it's easier.
3 seats can fit across in most sedans, so long as you have the right combination of car seats.

Re: Spinoff to car...3-child families!
Don't have 3 of my own at this point, but I often have another child or child's friend in the car, so I definitely wanted something with a full, roomy third row that was not a mini van. I have the Buick Enclave and I couldn't be happier. The older children (ages 7 +) sit in the 3rd row. Similar cars would be the GMC Acadia and the Chevy Traverse.
I have the Captain's chairs too, so there is no climbing over seats. They can walk through the middle of the second row, or I can slide up the seat in the second row and they can just get in the side back door that way.

Same! Love it, love it!
My girls are in the 3rd row. Baby is behind the driver in the 2nd row and the other seat is right next to that, making an "aisle" to the back on the passenger side. K(6) buckles herself in her booster. A(4) is still in a regular carseat--all I have to do is kneel or stand in the aisle and help her out.
Minivans rock!

Re: Spinoff to car...3-child families!
We got a Honda Odyssey when we found out #3 was coming. The middle row has 3 independent seats that can be left in or taken out.
We plan on having the 2 youngest in the middle row and DD in the back row. I will take out the left-most seat in the middle row that way I can still reach DD in the back seat.

Dodge grand Caravan.
Not many cars fit 3 car seats in a single row. None that I saw or not the 2 we had previous to the mini van.
I have two car seats in the second row, one in the third. My son was 2 when we put him inthe 3rd row. Has not been a problem at all.

Re: Spinoff to car...3-child families!
Chevy Traverse with the captain's chairs . I LOVE IT!!!
DH has a minivan but hopefully not for long. We'll make a decision tonight. Now that the twins are forward facing, we have some options with SUV's that fit 3 car seats across. DH needs 4WD for the winter. The only minivan that has the 4WD is the Sienna and for a nice usee one, it was out of our price range.
So, we're looking at the jeep commander and grand cherokee.

Re: Spinoff to car...3-child families!
We have a Ford Escape right now, and three carseats definately will not fit. There is just a small amount of space between the two car seats in there now. We definately need something new.
I think a mini-van would be best. I never thought I'd be a mini-van Momma, but I'm OK with it.
Even though we'll stop at 2 kids, I do babysit a 3 year old so I need a car seat installed for her.

I don't have 3 kids but I do have a chevy traverse with captains seats and love it! Adults and children can get to the back seat just fine and are comfy!

I have a Chevy Surburban and love it.... it has all the room I need with the triplets...If you do need 3 convertable car seats to fit in one row I know a few triplet mommies that have the Sunshine Radiant car seat and fit all in the same row in minivan and smaller SUV

Believe it or not I will need one of every kind of car seat available!
Infant seat for our newborn!
Convertable seat (Britax is what we are using now!) for the 3 year old we babysit!
And a Graco Booster for my 6 year old daughter!

I've had that combination in my small car years ago, all in the same row! (it was a Pontiac Vibe). It was tight, but we had the infant seat rear facing in the middle, the Britax Marathon on one side (forward facing) and a booster seat on the other side. It was doable since one was rear facing and the other forward, and because we were able to remove the booster seat to put the infant seat into the base in the middle.
Not that I would suggest doing that.
