Spinoff to alone time
If you really do enjoy being alone, when did you realize that you did?
I think I didn't spend much time by myself at all until I went to college - suddenly there were these huge chunks of time where it was just me going about my day, going to class, etc. I even ate by myself a few times. All through my childhood and high school I always had people around me - whether it was on the school bus or walking to classes.
But it's taken me a while to really enjoy my time by myself. I think it wasn't until I was living in a tiny tiny apartment with a friend in New York that I really began to value it. Now I sometimes take the bus to work because I knwo it will take longer than the train and I'd rather have that time to myself!

Re: Spinoff to alone time
From a very young age. I always loved being alone doing quiet things - reading a book, crafty stuff, listening to music, whatever. I also used to LOVE watching tv alone, although now I prefer to do that with DH. Pre-DH I was always an extremely solitary and independent person (I still am, but I love to do things with him too!)

Re: Spinoff to alone time
Right after high school when I had days off during the week. Everyone else would have work and I would wake up to an empty house.
I loved those days - I could lounge on the couch and watch tv, or hang by the pool in the summer with some good music on!

Same here. But when I got to college and dormed, I liked being around people. It wasn't until I had broken up with an ex fiance, and lived by myself for awhile that I realized I really like to be alone. Not all the time, but I don't feel the need to always have someone around.

Re: Spinoff to alone time
Even when I was very young, I liked to be alone.
I wasn't an only child either. I had older sisters, but I often played by myself, and I liked to read books. I also spent a lot of time doing my homework.
I was, and still am, perfectly content to be alone and work at my own pace and do the things I want to do with no one bugging me.

Re: Spinoff to alone time
I love time to myself, and I'd say I learned this in college. I had my own room for a few semesters and I loved it.

Re: Spinoff to alone time
I love being by myself - looking back I think even as a child I liked to occasionally be on my own and would get tired of play dates.
I don't think I realzied I like being alone though until college or even after graduating.

Re: Spinoff to alone time
For me it was after I graduated from college.. I was always around friends in college...NEVER once did I have time to myself. Even if I had to study for an exam, I would go to the library and BAM...it became social hour. It was so hard to be alone!
When I graduated, it was the best feeling. I moved back to LI and it was nice to have my space back.

Re: Spinoff to alone time
I've loved it since I was little.
just the other day the hubby went to visit his bro and thought I might be lonely.
I am far from lonely when I am alone. I amuse myself to no end.

What's alone time?
I'm one of nine. Alone time didn't exist for me until I was in my late 20's and moved to Manhattan by myself. 8 years of glorious alone time!

I was an only child for 7 years before my brother was born. I have always been a loner of sorts. Loved being social, but always fine and ok with being on my own. I guess I was used to it from a very young age. For as long as I can remember I was always able to occupy myself and enjoy doing so . . .

Re: Spinoff to alone time
Being a young dancer was kind of a lonely time, b/c I was away for some of it and I just got used to it. But even before that, I can remember being young and reading in my room for hours or listening to music. I just grew up that way, not needing anyone for entertainment.

Re: Spinoff to alone time
I never liked being alone until I got my own place. It was so hard and lonely at first, but after a few weeks I started to LOVE IT! I definitely enjoy my own company

Re: Spinoff to alone time
I realized that I like to spend time alone, when I no longer had any time alone. I'm kinda of looking forward to sitting in traffic when I go back to work next week...just so I can have some time alone
