Spinoff Sort of: Would you have a Birthday Party the Sat of Mother's Day Weekend?
Andrew's Birthday is May 25th and the weekend before my parents and sister (niece) will be in Kansas. That is the weekend I would really like to have his party (22nd) but I would also like them to be there. It's the kids party.
Or I can have it the 15th which is the Sat before Mother's Day.
What do you think?

It depends on the time and what type of party. I think you could and if people can't come, so be it. School age children have their sporting events ON Mother's Day.

FYI - the Saturday before Mother's day is the 8th, not the 15th 
Regardless, it wouldn't be a problem as we are going to one that day!

I think you're in the clear because the 15th isn't the day before Mother's Day. But to answer your question, I face this on an annual basis because DS's birthday always falls within a few days of Mother's Day...and no, I wouldn't. I'm going to have his on the weekend of the 15th this year.

I just double-checked my calender, because DS's b-day party is on the 8th, and I was pretty sure it was the day before Mother's Day, so I guess that answers your original question about what I think about having a b-day party the day before Mother's Day..

I think the day before Mother's Day is fine for a b-day party.
I agree. Most people I know only celebrate Mother's Day on the actual day.

Yes definitely. We are doing DD#1's 3rd bday party the sat of father's day weekend. Her actual birthday is ON father's day itself so we can't do it on her bday.
DD#1's birthday is May 23rd - we are going to be in disney but Mother's day is May 9th this year not the 16th. I would have a party the Sat of Mother's day weekend if that is when things worked out. It isn't the actual holiday. People are either going to come or not come. May is a bad time anyway b.c it is usually busy with weddings, showers, communions, graduations etc, anyway so you can't win no matter when you pick a date.
