Spinoff: Real beds for toddlers

Did you get a twin with frame?
Did you leave the frame out at first and just have mattress/box frame?

When we moved to TX we left our frame for OUR bed behind. It was broken, etc. We have yet to get a new one. AJ sleeps with us a lot and knows how to scoot off the bed/sofa/chair etc.

We are having issues with her crib (broken as well) Im afraid to keep trying to use the drop side since it won't stay up. For now I was thinking of going to to a consignmnet store and getting a convertible crib rail and testing that out, but I wonder if I shouldnt just get her a twin bed set but leave it on the floor

I would stop using that crib ASAP. DD could potentially get injured! DH has seen a lot of little kids with arm/leg injuries at the hospital due to dangerous cribs. DH was actually adamant about not getting a crib that has one of those dropping sides for this reason.

I think it would be fine to have just a mattress without a frame in the beginning.

DS is only 8m old but when he gets a little older, i'll probably put just a mattress down on the floor so he can't get hurt if he falls. Or I'd get a bed rail for a twin bed.

I too would stop using the broken dropside rail tonight! Thats REALLY REALLY dangerous and an entrapment hazard.

We transitioned DS right from his crib to a twin with the frame/mattress/boxspring and he was fine in it. You could totally do it withou the frame too. The frame makes DS a little high for him so he has to use a step stool to get in and out of it. He is 2years 3mos.

Thanks ladies

I am actually not letting her sleep in that crib with the rail up. When its up its loose. When its down its fine. Its not a crib that opens the way those recalls do. Its not 'hinged' But still broken pieces means no use in my mind

I can not afford to go get another crib for a half year and I can not find the replacement parts

So my solution is to drop her mattress to its LOWEST setting. Right now its in the middle and just leave the drop rail down. At least until I can get a crib rail or mattress for her.

I dont want to put her crib mattress (no box spring) flat on the floor. Feels like a daycare mat in my mind.

I think the mattress on the floor is a safer alternative to the crib with the bar down. I would be nervous she would fall trying to get out because the rail is too high to easily get out.

I would do the mattress on the floor. A friend of mine does this with her son and has since he was about a year old. He has been absolutely fine with it.

I would do the same rather than a toddler bed, but we did get a conversion kit with our crib, so when he's ready we will convert.

A twin bed set ( mattress and box spring) are gonna cost you the same as a new crib.. BRU has $99 cribs, even at a thrift store, a mattress/box frame's gonna cost you $100 as well....So I guess that would be the choice I would make...a new crib or the twin mattress based on her age and activity level.

mine slept on his crib mattress on the floor when he was sick and in our room.

in his room he had a queen size mattress and box on the floor, no frame.

that was from 12 mos-24 mos
