Spinoff q - if your child doesn't wear a coat in the carseat?

When/where do you put it on and take it off? Do you sit in the back seat with them and take it on/put it off every time you enter AND leave the car? I can't imagine doing this with DS. It is hard enough getting him in the carseat!

My DS is on the passenger side, so usually I sort of stand him up and put it on. It is a GIANT pita though!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can imagine! You do this every time you get in and out? So the door is open then when you are doing this? When it is very cold doesn't he get cold then?

Ok, I am going to be honest and tell you that I leave his coat in the car a lot, I bring him out (it is not very far from by back door to the car and I warm it first) with no coat onChat Icon Chat Icon

So I only put it on when we reach our destination and then take it off again when we leave.Chat Icon

Most of the time I remote start the car to get it warm. Then we walk out to the car and I take their coats off before they get into their seats, and then I put them back on before they get out of the car again. But we have a minivan so they can easily stand in there while I'm doing it. There's just not enough space for them to take them off or put them on easily themselves.

I cannot imagine doing it with 3 kids trying to run errands. But today I tried doing the straps under the jacket thing and zipping the jacket up over them and it worked great and was very easy. I'm very glad that video was posted, I never would have thought of it.

Re: Spinoff q - if your child doesn't wear a coat in the carseat?

My DD's have never worn heavy wintercoats when we will be in the car..I just buy heavy fleece coats for them-they are thinner and warm enough to go from car to house, from car to store and vice versa.

THis is the first year i bought a real jacket for my oldest DD who's 2.5 and she HATES it! I'm glad i got it on clearance for 20 bucks last winter!

I figured they dont' really need big bulky jackets until they are in school.

I never buy a heavy coat because of the carseat thing. I usually get a bodywarmer vest and a heavy fleece.

The kid doesn't like to wear his coat anyway, so let him freeze!!!
