Spinoff- pulling DS out of school for a wedding
Im just curious, for the people who think its bad to pull kids out of school, how would you handle this? My DS is the ring bearer for my SIL wedding. It's on a Friday and we need to be at the hall for pictures at 2pm, then church, then more pictures, then the wedding. I have no intentions of sending DS to school that day. He has a tendency to get overwhelmed and exhausted by busy, stressful days. I feel like its too much to wake him at 6:30am, send him off to school, pick him up early, throw a suit on him and then start the wedding festivities. What would you do?

I would absolutely skip school. A wedding is a very special occasion, and not something you are going to do all the time. And, I'll add that I'm a teacher who approves of this :)

skip the day i am a teacher and i honestly don't feel that its such a big deal to pull your kids out for a special occasion/event, if you are pulling him out for any little thing and it becomes a very bad habit then thats a problem

I wouldn't send my child to school on a special day like that and I wouldn't feel guilty at all!

Spinoff- pulling DS out of school for a wedding
As a teacher I like to know about big events like this so I can ask the child about it when they return and make them feel even more special by telling the class

I plan on telling his teacher and asking her for any work he may miss so we can do it over the weekend.

This is a great idea! As a teacher, it is greatly appreciated when parents are willing to complete missed assignments. I say let him skip school and enjoy the day!

My daughter is a flower girl on a friday wedding in november. Its out of state so she will miss 2 days of school that week. I say pull him out for one day. Its will be fine.

Skip the day. It's a wedding, which is (hopefully) a one-time thing.

Re: Spinoff- pulling DS out of school for a wedding
Skip school. My daughter was just a flower girl in my sister in laws wedding. She got married at the hall at 6:30. I started getting the girls ready around 1:30 cause it was a bit if a drive. Got to the hall at 3:30. I think all the waiting for the ceremony at 6:30 actually made her tired. I can't imagine how she would have been if she was in school.
I'm a teacher, and I would still say skip school. One day will not make a difference!

Re: Spinoff- pulling DS out of school for a wedding
I am a teacher and that doesn't bother me. It's a special event. It bothers me when they are pulled out for vacation for a week or so because people don't want to pay the money to go during breaks.

Re: Spinoff- pulling DS out of school for a wedding
Skip school. I am a teacher and I have seen parents pull students for less important reasons than that. I would say just give the teacher a heads up that he will not be in school that day so maybe she can give you assignments for him to complete over the weekend if its time sensitive or to see what he will be missing.

Re: Spinoff- pulling DS out of school for a wedding
In that case skip school You really don't have much of a choice It would be way too chaotic to try to fit in a few hours of school

Like me Going away during break ruins the trip (and triple the price) too many people
Def pull him for the wedding, enjoy!
