Spinoff of "What is your thermostat set at"

If you lower your heat to save money, how much do you spend on heat a year and how large is your home.

I don't see the need to lower my heat and I don't think I spend a lot.

My answers:
$1,848/year (I am on budget so I pay 12 months out of the year)
3 bedroom, 1 bath ranch

I have a 3bed 1 bath cape. We spend about $1600-1800/ year on oil, depending on the price of oil that year and if I wait to buy when I need alot and get a cheaper price.

this is the second year at our house we were spending on average $250-$300 per month on heat during the winter months (3 bedroom ranch) with thermostat on 68 most of the time and we have a fireplace.

I hope to save at least $20 hope for more then that! You can always put layers on in my book and if your walking around in shorts/no socks then perhaps you should change what you have on and drop the thermostat down a hair.

about $1800 a season for oil (Oct - May)

Just shy of 4,000 sq fet but a very tight home thanks to new widows and new insulation in the attic

Spent $260 in September for 100 gal oil... spent 303 yesterday for 100...

im guessing it will be around $1000-1200 for the year... 1 bedroom 1 floor... dont know the sq footage

During the really cold months (Dec-March), it's about 160/month.

Nov & April, maybe about 60-70.

The rest of the year, the heat is off.

we filled our tank yesterday for $375.....hoping it lasts over a month but we'll see because it is really cold and windy right now.

We have a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom cape we spend about $1,100 to $1,200 a year

$1800/year on oil isn't bad.

there are so many variables to this question but i will tell you we installed a programmable thermostat and lowered the heat from 70 to 67 when we are home and down to 62 when we are at work and i am saving about 1.5 gallons of oil per day during the winter. depending on the price, that equates to $135/month.

we needed to save money because DH was out of work. that extra money over the winter really helped. if money was no object, i would keep it at 70.

I set my thermostat downstairs at 64 and upstairs at 60. We spend about $1000-1200 per year for a large 3 bedroom/3 story victorian.

I have an all electric home and during last winter (Jan-Mar) our bills avged about $400/month... 1st yr in our new home and didnt know... It was crazy... so now we def trying to conserve our heat after learning from last yrs fiasco

ETA: 2 floor town house condo, 1350sq ft ... we hope that buying a more efficient heating system will help us out
