Spinoff: LIPA
We have a 3 BR ranch house and our balanced billing with LIPA is $168. That seems a lot higher than many of your bills. I am trying to figure out why.
Our appliances are all new within the last 6 years. We only have an A/C in our bedroom. Our windows are 7 years old and we have new siding as well.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Advice?
Thanks!

Re: Spinoff: LIPA
A lot depends on where you live and how much you use also...ours is about $125 month - not balanced. BUT - we aren't home all day and leave no lights on, we do about 5 loads of laundry per week, run the dishwasher maybe once a week and don't leave any lights on at night. We also only run the A/C once in a while - it's got to be REALLY hot.

Why don't you get someone to come in and do an energy assessment on your house? They will be able to tell you what is sucking up energy and what you can do to save more energy and money.

That's a great idea. Do you know who we would contact?

We basically do the same thing. We are out during the day. We do about the same amount of laundry and running of the dishwashers.
Your bill depends on where you live on Long Island?

Did you just move? When we moved into our first house we asked about balanced billing, but they would have done it based on the previous owners and we knew theirs was going to be more than ours. (she was a SAHM with 2 kids - we just had DH and I who were gone all day)
I did just move in March so maybe that is it. DH mentioned that idea today also. Thanks for the tip!

We have a 3 br./1 bath ranch with 2 wall a/c's (not run all the time) and our new balanced billing for the year is $89/month. We have all new appliances and the windows are only 2 years old.

That's what I don't get. We have a 3 br/2 bath ranch. We have 1 window A/C in our bedroom and it is only run when it is super hot outside. Our fridge is brand new and Energy Star and our dishwasher is 7 years old and Energy. Our washer and dryer are 5 years old and Energy Star too!
I don't get it!!!
