Spinoff again

Ok, the last couple of posts have made me question some folks train of thoughts. I know, I know, if you are skinny and get comments about it, you feel uncomfortable. But then to read that certain people make assumptions of chubby people makes me so angry. You know what, be proud that you are skinny. You are the same girls that post pics in your bikinis and all. I don't think you fully understand what life is light battling the bulge ALL YOUR LIFE because some of you have been blessed and work hard for your figures. You've never had a weight problem or even know what life is like on the other side.

I know many work hard for their figures, and major kodos. I'm proud of anybody who works hard for something.

This is such a touchy subject and being larger myself, I get emotional about it, but whether you are large OR skinny, just don't assume things about the other side.

Re: Spinoff again

its not always easy to be thin. yes, i know, woe is me. but people assume I must have an eating disorder. why? b/c i'm thin, I have super fast metabolism and that is why I don't gain.

And the people that i know that are overweight are so b/c of eating habits. I don't judge others b/c I get it myself and who needs that.

ps how do you know i've never had a weight problem?

Re: Spinoff again

You are asking people not to assume something about the "other side" and yet you are assuming that thinner people don't fight their own battles.

This goes both ways.

Don't ASSUME you know that people don't eat right.

Don't assume that skinny people exercise constantly.

Don't assume that large people are lazy.

My SIL is a size 26. She has been on thyroid medication for years and still can't lose weight. She recently found out that she is insulin resistant so that means that every bit of sugar she eats is converted to fat. She can't even burn it off! She is now on medication and the South Beach diet. She has lost 16lbs already! People assume that she is lazy or doesn't eat well but she has a medical condition.

Re: Spinoff again

Just b/c I am thin now does not mean I have not "battled the bulge" and I am certainly not "blessed". I have to work VERY hard to keep the weight off.

I think assumptions can go both ways.

Re: Spinoff again

I think it goes both ways. People can have very fast metabolism and get accused of not eating enough and people can slow metabolism and be accused of eating too much. Very few people are born to look like a supermodel. I personally think it is just easier because society's view of the perfect body is usually a thin one - not your average woman in America's size 14.

and hence why I said kodos. Anybody who works hard for anything in life deserve praise.

But this is not true of every overweight person. I'm overweight, have been most of my 36 years. I eat healthy, (95% of the time) don't eat any sugar, and even when I work out, I just cannot lose the weight. I do what I can, to stay healthy, but I know I'm not overweight because of my eating habits.

Re: Spinoff again

I contantly battle bulge

thyroid problems run in my family

so do large frames.

I have wide hips and full thighs. I gain weight very easily.

and I LOVE food.

I'm a size 8. I am curvy. I have been a size 12/14 and I've been a size 3/4

this is where I feel most comfortable, but I have to maintain diligently to not go too far in either direction.

obesity is one of the only things that "run" in my family.

it's not going to be me.

Re: Spinoff again

Along the lines of this discussion, my cleaning lady is very overweight. The other day she told me that people, and even her doctors, are always surprised to hear what she foes for a living. Why? Because they think she has a siting around job. The girl never stops from the time she gets to my house until she leaves.

Re: Spinoff again

"skinny" and "thin" can be different...I know my cousin can't gain an ounce worth her life and HATES her figure while we all tell her she should model..

I on the other hand was a size 14 (at 5'6) and worked my butt off to be an 8. Everyone has their battles...

Re: Spinoff again

I have experienced all sides.

I was thin in HS and bigger when I graduated HS and ate like crap...

I gained 54 pounds when PG, but didn't gain any weight the first 6 months...

I am now what I think is a comfortable weight for me...for me.

People are judgmental...FACT of life.
It's just the comfort level of what people say to skinny and PG people...it's ASTOUNDING...

Big or small, feelings are feelings.

whether you eat twinkies or not.

Re: Spinoff again

IMHO, I don't think ANYONE should comment about another's weight. Thin OR thick. Whether it is a compliment or not a compliment. It is sooo personal and you don't know what the other person's self esteem issues are.

An alternative is to say "you look very nice today. That outfit really flatters your figure." Or something along those lines. Once you bring the words skinny, fat, overweight, thin, etc., into the picture there will only be hurt feelings. Usually.

It is astounding!
I'm about 9 months pregnant now....and someone at work the other day told me that I'd "gained weight all over". As if that wasn't completely rude!

I used to be skinny, now, not so much. I'll never comment on someone's weight, unless I know they're working hard to achieve weight gain or loss, because it's just too personal.
