spinoff - PTWM

Are any of you part time workers or will be? I go part time starting January first (due to the budget saying this is when it can start) and I want to know how you find your days at home with baby and hoe you find your days at work. Is it easier than full time? Do you miss stuff?

I am currently working PTWM. I work 2 full days in my office and 3 days pt in the office. Prior to this I was 5 pt days in the office. I now have a sitter 2 days a week. I have to say that I love it. I have enough time at home that I don't feel like I am missing time with him, but get away enough that I am not missing grown up time. It helps that I work for a small company and have a ton of fleixbility, too. When I was home with him FT, I felt like I was losing my mind. Even with this sched, I have to take a lot of time off because my mom has med problems and when I am home with him for more than like 2 full days alone, I go nuts and beg people to come over or I go over to friends.

I worked part time for almost four years...i'm still working now, but plan on quiting after baby no. 2 arrives. I LOVED working part-time..i found it to be a great balance...still making money and getting adult interaction, yet still have time to be a sahm two days of the week and take your little one to gymboree, etc. I'm sure there will days that I will miss working, but right now its the best decision for me and my family for me to quit work. If u end up working part-time, i think you'll reallly enjoy it! I did!

I worked 18-23 hrs a week, 3 days a week. I love it. I feel like a sahm but get a break and a pay check.

I work "part" time - only 3 days a week, but 10 hour days.

The days are LOOOOOONG but I'm more project-oriented, both in my work style and my position so I am able to use the benefit of a 10 hour day.

The days I'm home are wonderful.

To me, it is the perfect balance. I'm still able to complete my responsibilities in that time frame but I'm home more often than I'm not (4 days with the kids, 3 days with work) and to me that was the biggest difference.

I am also not a prime candidate for SAHM - it's better both for me and the kids if I am working a bit.

This will be #3 in 4 years for me and I have every intention of coming back(despite 'popular opinion' here - usually from those who don't have kids ) - assuming I have a job to come back to.

Thanks ladies. This is what I was hoping for. A good balance plus a paycheck. In a perfect world, I could just do the stay home thing but we can't afford it and honestly, I am not sure if I would want to do it. It doesn't mean that it's a bad choice but I think I would get in need of adult time.

I used to work PT 3 days a week! I LOVED it. It was hte perfect balance IMO.
I worked FT for 3 months and felt like all I had time for was running around to get all the chores/errands done on the weekends. And I am now a SAHM for 2.5years. PTWM was my fave. I had my OWN life, my OWN accomplishments, and yet I was still spend the majority of my week one on one iwth my child. My weekends were mroe free for family time then when I was FT bc I did errands on my days off when the stores were less crowded.

I'm a PTWM, right now I'm doing 3 half days. For the most part I love it, I'm 6ish mos preg with a 2 1/2 year old. Find its a good balance, I give ftwm a ton of credit, I wouldn't be able to do it. I've thought about being a sahm for a number of reasons, but vie kind've rearranged my hours to see if it would help. Right now its a good balance, im hoping to be able to continue with the new baby as well.
