Spin off: Volunteering - what about your kids?
DS has been volunteering since he was 7 with the Cub Scouts. We do lots of different community service activities. Some of the activities he has participated in are: community clean up, beach clean up, community planting, 9/11 memorial maint. @ his school, performing for seniors in assisted living, thanksgiving dinner delivery. He has also helped out with some crafty things like decorating meal delivery boxes for the holidays. Generally he and most of our scouts log between 10 - 20 hours of community service per year. They also participate in parades and stand in service for American Legion functions.
