Spin off to MIL "punch' post
My MIL calls DD "mama" Like she'll say: "how are you doing mama?" to DD.
I think this is confusing to DD. I mean I am mama DD is 5.5 months. Do you think this is wierd/confusing for DD? Would you say something?
I feel bad, b/c MIL is really sweet and bends over backwards to help us....

My MIL does the same thing and it bugs the ever loving snot out of me.
She did it with her nephews too, which was just weird to me.

I call my DD mama, sister, little sister, etc...
I don't think it is confusing for her - they are just nicknames...BUT if it bothers you, say something. Honesty is always the best policy.

No, I dont see anything wrong with it. My mother calls my son "daddy" or "grandma", my MIL calls my son "papa" or "Papo", she calls her grandaughters "mama". My son knows who mommy and daddy are, when you talk about your MIL to DD just keep saying "we are going to Grandma's house" or whatever

I dont think I would say anything. I know many of my family members and friends do it to our kids (when speaking Italian), even the boys, it's a term of endearment.
It's not worth hurting grandma's feelings over.
you have to hear the nicknames i call my kids, and theyre not confused yet.

My mil does this too.. at first i was like  , then decided it wasnt worth saying anything it would just cause more problems and so i just bite my tounge everytime.

I grew up with my mother calling me "mommy" and she calls my kids "nonna"..My kids (son) still call me mommy and call my parents Nonna and Nonno and they aren't confused

I worked for 5 years at a school in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The majority of the students as well as staff were spanish-speaking, and the adults always called the kids "papi and mami" which I picked up as well.
I call my DD Mami from time to time and she is fine with it. It's just one of the MANY nicknames we call her, but she clearly knows what her name is.

I call my boys Mamma - I used to do it a lot more often than I do now... it wasn't meant as a name.. just kind of a soothing noise like "oh.. mammmaaaaaa..come here mamma.."
It bugged the mess out of my husband - but the boys have suffered no ill effects.
