Spin-off to infant seat

For those of you the moved DC out of the infant seat at 4/5 months...could they sit up on their own? What did you do when you went to a restaurant? If they can't sit in a high-chair because they can't sit up on their own?

As you know....DD hates her infant seat. I want to get rid of it...but then I would have to take the stroller into every restaurant? Grocery shopping, etc? I don't know what to do....

Re: Spin-off to infant seat

Julia was out of the infant seat at 5 months. She could sit up on her own, so I started to use a highchair that attaches to the tables when we were out.

When Julia was in her infant seat and we went out with her I would turn one of the highchairs the resturant had upside down and put her infant seat in that--sounds weird but it works!

Grocery shopping I would use my baby bjorn. It was a little bit easier for me since she was born in the summer.

ETA: I used peapod too!

No, she's not too big, she just HATES it. DD is only about 13lbs....but screams bloody murder everytime you put her in it. Especially when we are at the register in BRU or the grocery store. She's happy as a clam when she's not in the infant seat. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Spin-off to infant seat

Nate was out of his seat at 4 months. We actually kept the carrier in the truck for another month or two to use when we went out to eat or used a shopping cart.

Thats a good idea! I just bought a new carseat for Jack and Molly will move into the Triumph since the infant carrier is just way too heavy now. It is not conventient anymore.

hmmmmmmm thats stinks..my dd hates it also..only when i put her in it..then when she screams i just pick up the car seat and she stops instantly..GIRLSChat Icon LOL..im not sure what you can do..it would really stink to get rid of it..its such a nice thing to just pop them in the base to the stroller or just carry it.i wonder if you put her in a high chair with blankets rolled up..it may be tough if she isnt sitting up on her own..but you can give it a test run...dh and i did that the other night at applebees...we ended up eating so fast and got out of there..Chat Icon but now we know we have to wait a bit..

Sydney pretty much sits up on her own (although she tends to lean forward a lot lol) and has been in her high chair since about 4 months. the one we have at home is great because when we first started using it we would recline it slightly and she looked much more comfy like that, now we leave it regular.

This won't work for us...at least in the car she will fall asleep....she is not happy in a restaurant in it, and I always have to take her out and one of us has to hold her.

Re: Spin-off to infant seat

Kevin was out by 5 months since he was over the height and veyr close to the weight limits and barely fit in the straps anymore.

Restaurants we just brought our stroller in...big stroller too - just made sure we went to roomy places.

Shopping carts were tough so we mostly went shopping without him or DH and I went together and he was in the stroller.

Baby Bjorn was also an option but since he was almost 20lbs at 5 months - it was a little heavy for that for long periods of time.

It went fast because by 6-6.5 months my son fully supported himself so then no big issue.

I read someone who kept the infant seat in the car after they reached the hight limits and just used it for these situations (baby rode in the big boy car seat in the car but switched him to infant seat for these situations).

Re: Spin-off to infant seat

Thanks everyone. I was trying to push it out until the end of winter with the infant seat so I don't have to worry about a coat (I use the bundle-me). I guess we will just have to wait a month or two.

Usually...if we go out to eat, when the food comes, I eat really fast while DH holds her...then I hold her while he eats. I hate cold food, so I eat first...and he eats really slow Chat Icon

Re: Spin-off to infant seat

We bring in the stroller - and move a chair out of the way - it works great
