Spin-Off to Christmas Village

DH and I would like to start collecting pieces for a Christmas Village. We figured we could add a piece each year.

Which Villages do you have?

Which do you love and why?

Pics? Website Links?

Cheap places to purchase?

TIA!

Re: Spin-Off to Christmas Village

We have mostly Department 56 mixtures. We don't stay within each "collection" necessarily - we mix and match the Dickens and New England villages mostly. Because we like the styles of them. We get those from eBay auctions.

We also have pieces that others have bought us from Kohl's. I forget the name of them but they're in red boxes.

We collect Department 56. We got most of them on sale 50% off at Foruntoff's the day after Christmas. We have mostly the North Pole Village.

I do Lemax. I love that so many places carry them and they have such a big selection. Also most of the places that carry them have them 40% off before the holidays really start and after.

I mix and match from the different sets.

I have the North Pole Village from Dept 56.

My mother had started it and I inherited it when she passed away.

I have about 36 houses now. It takes me a whole day to set it up.

I found an old picture....oh and yeah I collect Santa's, I have over 150 of them. yup. i'm crazy about Christmas.

I have a mixture of Dickens and New England Village. I haven't put it up in years. I keep meaning to put my pieces up on ebay but never get around to it!

Re: Spin-Off to Christmas Village

we have the Dept 56 original snow village. we've purchased pieces all over, depending on the sale. if we see a piece on sale, we grab it. we've added about 1-2 pieces per year and are now running out of room so we are probably set for a while. DH has a lot of fun setting it up every year.

This is what we have, I no longer collect as I inherited my moms collection (which we developed together) and I have over 30 houses, but I love the look of hte Northpole, I also love that its cute for kids as my nieces love to see santa's house and where the reindeer live, etc

I like the fake snow that's on the North Pole ones. It is not a cheap addiction and we also are all out of room so we need to stop buying them after this year!

I have a Dept. 56 "Christmas in the City" collection--I LOOOOVE it so much! I have at least 10 pieces including a firehouse, a school, department store, church, coffee house, post office...
It's like old-time NYC and I LOOOVE it! It sits on my mantlepiece.

We also have a small "It's a Wonderful Life" collection including the Bailey Building and Loan, Martini's Bar, George and Mary's house and one other piece that escapes me right now.

We have Christmas in the City too - I absolutely love it and DH and I really enjoy putting it up together every year. I have been collecting for close to 10 years and probably have about 25 houses. It's addicting!

THey sell them at Fortunoff and some Hallmark stores. I've also bought on ebay.

Re: Spin-Off to Christmas Village

We have the one from Kohls's St Nicolas Square.

We started collecting our first married Christmas and then added more after each Christmas when they were on sale the day after.

I know several people that interchange these two villages...the styles of the houses are somewhat similar!

Re: Spin-Off to Christmas Village

I collect Christmas in the City, but it has been a good 2-3 years since I have put it up or bought anything. Definitely planning on putting it up this year.

Re: Spin-Off to Christmas Village

We have the department 56 dickens village. We get them at smaller stores on sale or at fortunoff the day after christmas (they never used to put the 56 pieces on the 50% off sale but they started to do this 2 years ago).

But you have to be on line the minute the store opens to get them. Two years ago that wasn't true. Last year I got there an hour late and the sales lady told me that some beotch came in with like 5 carts and put every single village piece in a cart to sell them on EBAY!!!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I was beyond mad! I just thought it was such a NASTY thing to do (while enterprising, I'll admit) But NASTY! It totally ruined my Christmas traditon of going to Fortunoff the next day! All I wanted to get was one little house..

Okay, so yeah.. I still haven't let go of that anger!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

We have a few more pieces to add this year and probably another level to the table but, defintely an extension with a bridge to the residential area.
