Spin-off: Life Plan
Was anyone else ever "talked out of" going into what they originally wanted to go into?
Do you regret listening?
Or do you think it worked out for the best?
Would you ever talk anyone out of going into what YOU currently do?
What about a different profession that you didn't agree with?
Why or why not?

Do you regret listening? ehhh...IDK
Or do you think it worked out for the best? Ehh...sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Would you ever talk anyone out of going into what YOU currently do? No, I don't think so.
What about a different profession that you didn't agree with? I would never try to talk someone out of a profession that I didn't agree with or like. If that person asked my opinion, I would base it on them and their life not my own.
Why or why not?

Re: Spin-off: Life Plan
I was definitely encouraged to be a writer by my father. but after finishing college, i realized being in the news business wasnt for me.
however, I have lots of people trying to talk me into getting my masters and become a teacher.
but lots of teachers are out of work and i dont have a desire to go back to school.

Not talked out of, encouraged.
Do I regret listening, yes I think so. Maybe that's just burnout talking but the stress of my job is wearing me out after 14 years in the field When I first started out I was so gung ho on helping people. But for every person who's grateful for what you do for them, there's about 20 who just want to use you and abuse you.
I talk people out of going into my field ALL THE TIME. As you know healthcare is just getting insane by the day with all the regs and documentation needed to cya, and even the amount of schooling it takes to become a physical therapist now (entry doctoral required ) it's just ridiculous the amount of debt you go into. If I had to do it over again i'd absolutely choose something else. Not to mention there are no old physical therapists, we all just kinda fade away because of injury and wear and tear.

Re: Spin-off: Life Plan
My close friend and I wanted to go to cosmetology school. My Mom threw a fit and talked me out of it. My friend went, worked hard for 10 years, owns her own business and makes TONS of money. On the down side-she is exposed to tons of chemicals, her feet and back are messed up and she works all the time.

Re: Spin-off: Life Plan
Was anyone else ever "talked out of" going into what they originally wanted to go into? I think I was subconsciously talked out of acting. My father was never supportive and although I know it important for a parent to show all sides of a situation all he did was harp on how poor I would be and what a mess my life would become.
Do you regret listening? Yes, I think it was my mess to make and who the heck knows...I might of been brilliant!
Or do you think it worked out for the best? No I honestly think it made things worse b/c I allowed myself to lose all my self esteem
Would you ever talk anyone out of going into what YOU currently do? No, I have a good "normal" job but anyone w/really strong ambitions, I would suggest they make sure its a temp position. Plus I would NEVER do to anyone what my dad did to me....unless we are talking about Lawrence Fishburns daughter! that poor man!!!
What about a different profession that you didn't agree with? see above
Why or why not? b/c I think that porn is something only a woman in her mid 20s should be allowed to do. I honestly believe only then is a woman at some point where she might know herself and what she truly wants.

I was the opposite - I was "talked into" going to law school and becoming a lawyer. I actually tried it out and as soon as I started law school I knew it wasn't for me, and I left. Best decision I made for my career. I should have listened to my gut in the first place!

I too wanted to go to Cosmetology school. I wanted to own my own shop. My mother refused to let me go. There are times when I wished I was allowed to follow my dreams, but things are going well so I can't be too mad.

Was anyone else ever "talked out of" going into what they originally wanted to go into? No, I thought I wanted to be a lawyer and everyone thought that was fantastic.
Would you ever talk anyone out of going into what YOU currently do? I would let them know it's not all that it's hyped up to be, but I wouldn't talk them out of it. Plus there are a LOT of loans to pay off
