Spin off - 1 year old eating

Looking at the other post made me curious are your 1 yo's feeding themselves? Do they use utensils? Do you feed them? Does it depend on what they are eating at the moment?

Anything dd can pick up with her hands and not make a mess with, I let her do herself. She doesn't use utensils yet. She just turned 1 yr.

DD doesn't really let me feed her. Recently she started letting me feed her yogurt again and I usually feed her rice since that's tough for her to pick up. Other than that, she feeds herself everything. She can use a fork if I put the food on it and it's something like banana that won't fall off. I don't let her do it often bc it becomes a game and she gets upset when I take it away. She loves to take bites so I sometimes give her bigger pieces and just watch her with them. She does strips of waffles, a meatball cut in half, crackers, whole chicken nuggets, hot dogs cut into small strips and is really good about taking small bites.

DS feeds himself for the most part. He seems to eat more when I let him do it. I give him a little spoon and fork so he can experiment with how to use them. Sometimes he puts his food on the fork and than puts it in his mouth. Obviously things like yogurt and applesauce, I feed him or it would be all over...lol

At 12 months DS was feeding himself if it was soemthing he could pick up. They started to give him utensils at Daycare so I would alway have them on his tray at home. Now at almost 18 months he uses the utensils all the time and I have strted to give him chopsticks (s far he just stabs things with the chopsticks)

DD used to be on a pasta binge.. now not so much. She is a horrible eater.. and sometimes when it gets really bad, I give her one of those happy tots or plum organics pouches which she happily "eats" while doing her million things.

Some things I make for her are rice and lentils, couscous with veggies, or ground meat, "fried" rice which is basically, cooked rice sauteed with some greens, meat, and seasoing, hotdog Chat Icon pasta with butter and parmesan, soups and sometimes she'll a take bite of grilled cheese (that is rare).
