DS is 20 months old and was eval for speech through EI. Eval took about an hour at home. They told us before they left what he would qualify for/what they would recomend. We had to wait for our follow up meeting for service to be approved.

I can't remember what age DS was evaluated at, but they told us at the eval when they were done pretty much that they didn't think he was going to qualify. But they left, did the numbers and called us either the next day or the day after to confirm that he did not qualify. The testing itself was about an hour.

DD just turned 3 on Friday. She was late to speak to begin with and is sometimes unclear. She's getting much better but sometimes we can't understand. Her teacher was concerned, so when we went to her 3 yr check up the dr said to have her evaluated. B/c at 3 she likes people to understand kids.

the problem is we are moving in the next month. we are moving from Boston to Ct. The dr said have her evaulated here and bring the results to Ct. I'm not sure what to do. Will they re-evaluate her b/c it's a different state, or will they accept their eval?

Have it done before you move. I can't imagine they will re do it. I only say to do it now because if you wait until things settle down after the move and you get in touch with the appropriate companies it could be another 3 months. If they insist you re-do it.. no harm done.

I'm a speech therapist. Because she's 3, she will probably go through the school district, and not the Early Intervention program.
I live and work in NJ... and here the parents sign to give consent for the testing, then we have 90 days to do the testing and write up the report before we have a meeting to go over everything.
Although i guess if you go to a private clinic the timing might be different... but at a private clinic you would be paying out of pocket or your insurance would be paying.

In NY the CPSE has 60 School Days to hold the CPSE from the date you sign the consent for the evaluations. You need to call the district and state that you want your child evaluated for speech. They will tell you you need to come in and register with the district (prove residency with lipa bill/ deed/etc...), submit a copy of your child's birth certificate and most recent physical. You also have to fill out some paperwork and sign the consent. The district gives you list of agencies and you pick one to do the Evals (speech and psychological). Each one will take about an hour. The agency must provide you, the school district and the county with signed copies of the Evals within 5 school days of the scheduled CPSE meeting. It's a pretty quick process overall, but it can take up to 60 School days. The 60 day clock starts at the day you sign the consent so if you have 30 days prior to moving I would start this process ASAP or just wait until you move.

ETA:
Also services wouldn't start until September anyway because summer services are for regression only. They can't prove regression if you've never had the service so if you choose to wait until you move time really won't be lost as far as receiving services if your DD qualifies.
