Speaking of losing a leg
kind of morbid...but
Do you know anyone who is an amputee? Do you know how they get along with life?

my cousins husband was in a bad motorcycle accident years ago and lost his leg and one (or two - I am not sure)finger (the motorcycle fell on his leg and cut it off)...he has a prosthetic leg and he gets around great with it.....

My grandfather had his leg amputated because of diabetes at the age of 68. He recovered quite quickly and you couldn't even tell he had a prosthetic leg when he walked. He did very well. Unfortunately he passed away last year Nothing to do with his diabetes or his amputated leg though.

My dad had his leg amputated about 10 years ago. He gets along great, and they are making huge strides in prosthetics. His new leg you can not even tell it is fake except it has no hair on it, but because my dad has blonde hair it looks just like his real leg from a distance.

at the folk festival I go to every year, there is this man who dances at the dance tent with half his arm missing - not sure if it was amputated or a birth defect... its kind of weird dancing with him, but I have to ssay he leads pretty well with it

My uncle lost his leg during war and he has a prostethic leg. No problems. He's had it for so long, though.

Yes. She was in her 20's when she lost her leg. She is getting around very well and continues to work, etc.

too bad about the brain injury though. It will certainly impede his progress.

I worked with a girl who lost her leg because of a blot clot. She got a prosthetic and got around pretty well. She returned to work.

that's why my brother lost his. They didn't catch it in time..
that's a whole other story.

Yeah, I've read your brothers story. Kind of similar situation too. They didn't catch hers in time either. She didn't have to lose her leg. Her docs just couldn't find anything wrong with her when she was suffering from horrible leg pains. But it could have been much worse.
I think she was going to sue her docs.

My grandpa had one. He had cancer and he needed it amputated. He got around with a prosthetic. Unfortunately he developed lung cancer after the amputation and he passed away eight years ago.

A great uncle-he stayed in a wheelchair, but this was b/c years ago, when he lost it, that was his option.
A friends grandfather-lost it in a motorcycle accident and continued to ride until shortly before his death. You'd never know with him.
I also knew someone who lost an arm to cancer as young boy. Coped just fine.

I knew a guy a long time ago that lost his leg. He had a prosthetic. He was a young guy when he lost it (in his 20s).
He got along fine. His biggest fear was having to get it cut higher because he was having some problems with the nerves.
