stool softener? I'm so tired of having diarrhea and I feel as though getting rid of the stool softener would help, but I don't want to stop taking prenatals. I'm going to the Dr. tomorrow, but I was curious if anyone takes a vitamin that doesn't have a stool softener that I can ask the Dr to put me on instead.

I havent heard of any pre natal that DOES have a stool softner? Pre natals all have Iron in them, I cant take any pre natals ( even with 3 stool softners) and not get constipated.

I would take to the dr, I think you have something else going on. Maybe too much fiber?

So does that mean that the CVS ones do not contain stool softener? if so I will go out to CVS today! I know most women experience constipation during pregnancy so it makes sense to offer them, but as luck would have it I always have to have to opposite reaction of most people. Chat Icon

I take Citrucal prenatals and it says right on the box that they have a stool softener. Thanks for the suggestion. I have mentioned it to the Dr. before, but will definitely be bringing up again this week. I don't think there is any such thing as too much fiber. They keep saying it's so important to be taking in lots of fiber during pregnancy.

The CVS ones don't contain a stool softener, I assure you! They do contain like 157% iron, thereby making you constipated. I have had to take colace for it...but the CVS ones are great for the most part and contain what all the others do!

I did not think prenatals had a stool softener??

Anyway, I take CVS brand prenatals (100 count for only $8.99) and I don't have any constipation problems or problems on the other end of the spectrum either. I've been taking them for close to 3 years now through 2 pregnancies and a year of BF my first.

Do your prenatals give you heartburn too? I find that they KILL my stomach and give me the WORST heartburn!

I took the Citrical prenatals with the stool softner and had the same problem, could not get off the toilet. I switched to natalcare plus and haven't had a problem since. I guess some people are just sensitive to stool softners.

I think a few RX prenatals (not sure about OTC) have stool softeners. My doctor gave me a list of all the Rx prenatals so I could look up which one's my insurance covered. I asked the nurse the difference and she said they typically have different amounts of iron and some have stool softeners. Not sure if mine does, but I'm not constipated. I also took CVS they had no effect on me either way.

Good Luck!
