Sores in mouth, possibly getting white?

It appears that DS now has another symptom other than the crazy fever. Yesterday he told me his mouth hurt. He had a small sore on the roof of his mouth, directly behind his front tooth. It almost looked like he accidentally shoved his nail into the roof of his mouth.

This morning it has grown and is puffy and appears whiteish. And his top lip is puffy. He has an appt with the dr this morning, just waiting for them to open. Can this be strep? Can strep affect other areas than the throat? Anybody have experience?

TIA!

I would think coxsackie
DS got a high temp when he had that and a day or two later he got sores in his mouth
Good luck!
