Sonogram at 7 weeks..

was it internal or just a regular on the belly?

MIL has invited herself to come see..and I am so not comfortable with her watching a probe being put into me

**update**

MIL came, she wanted to because we are moving in 2 weeks and she wont be around to go to future appts. It really wasnt that bad, she stayed up by my head, and she and dh kept pushing each other out of the way to see the monitor. It was very cute. She also started hysterically crying when she heard the heartbeat, which was really sweet. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be.

Re: Sonogram at 7 weeks..

we had to go to a lab to have it done. The prescription teh doctor wrote was for both external and internal. The technician did the external, and everythign looked good. Then she said she was going to do the internal, but we said no thanks, since everything looked fine.

I think different doctors might do different things. If you'd like your MIL to come, maybe they coudl just do the external. If everything looks ok, I'm not sure if they'd even need to do the internal.

Re: Sonogram at 7 weeks..

I am pretty sure it is an internal. I know mine were for a while at the beginning.

I think its great that she wants to be involved...but I dont know if I am ok with her being in the room for an internal...but telling her no, you cant come, will def hurt her feelings, and I dont want to do that either

It's an internal. I do not blame you I would also NOT want MIL to be there for that. Tell her NO Chat Icon

mine was both. Either way I would not feel comfortable with others being in there.

Re: Sonogram at 7 weeks..

Mine was an internal. I'm usually crazy about wanting my privacy...but they do cover you up. As long as she stands next to you, she won't see anything!

Re: Sonogram at 7 weeks..

It will probably be an internal, I had one at 6 weeks. It easier for them to see the baby that way.

Re: Sonogram at 7 weeks..

I had both - external first but they couldn't see much, so they went internal to find the heartbeat.

I wouldn't bring your MIL to this visit. There's not much to see. Bring her later on when you can actually see the baby (arms, legs, movement, etc).

Internal and I agree you cant really see anything yet. Maybe you can invite her to the 20 week sono if she really wants to see?

Re: Sonogram at 7 weeks..

Mine was internal....the three I had prior to the ultrascreen at 11 weeks were all internal. They shut the lights off, and your under a sheet so she won't really see anything. Just make her wait outside the room til you are all ready.Chat Icon

Re: Sonogram at 7 weeks..

Would telling her that the doctor suggested waiting a few weeks so that she can actually see the baby better be an option for you?

I think this is a good way out if you don't have it in you to tell her no.
