Something different about the Florida students
Is their (justified) anger, their vocalness about their experience, their determination to be the last mass shooting and to not be victims. I hope they are the ones who do end this plague! But we can't let them do it alone. Strength in numbers.
#pencilsdown needs to be a real thing. All U.S. schools need to close and stay closed until this bs finally stops and everyone needs to gather at the doorsteps of their representatives and demand answers. Let these representatives explain directly to 3rd graders across the country that their lives are meaningless. Let representatives explain directly to teachers and principals everywhere why they shouldn't just be heroes for being awesome at their job, but heroes for shielding their students from a spray of bullets. Kids will be the driving force for change.

Something different about the Florida students
I've been thinking the same thing too. The are the age to be vocal, and young enough to be idealistic enough to maybe be the ones to finally be able to actually get something done or to at least get the dialogue open to a greater extent. I really hope so

they are amazing! I really feel like this shooting might have been the true catalyst to sustain a larger movement. I hope to God it is. I think this one really pushed people over the edge and are like that is f*cking enough!

I saw an interview with one of the survivors where he said our generation won’t stand for this and I think there is a of truth to that. It gives me hope. I was thinking these kids will be 18 soon and able to vote and hopefully they can turn that power into something positive and vote in people who will bring about change!

Sandy Hook didn't push people over the edge?

The sad and horrifying truth, is that this is no different than Sandy Hook. Come April, America will have moved on to something else. And the cycle will continue...
Realistically, schools can't just close until something is done. Kids will miss months and months of their education. I wish I knew what the answer was...so frustrating and heartbreaking.

No, Sandy Hook didnt, sadly. Not permanently. I think this next generation being that they are the victims of all of this, I think they are going to be the catalyst. Not a single shooting anywhere pushed anyone over the edge......this one, the aftermath feels different than all the others. I hope that it is.

I think they can make a difference. One Florida GOP donor told the GOP he isn’t going to contribute until there is some kind of gun reform. I don’t agree with donors controlling candidates but since that’s the way the broken system works right now, I think it’s a start. Also these hs kids will be able to vote in the next few years.
