Some prices from oil companies I called today - UPDATE
Shopping around for full-service company with automatic delivery. Here are the prices I got today:
Petro $129.95 service contract No lock-in on oil price but offered me a ceiling rate of $3.239 After 5 minutes, I got her down to ceiling rate of $2.999
Meenan $119 service contract No lock-in on oil, ceiling rate of $2.999 $100 referral credit for us and additional house (my parents)
Tragar Oil $59.95 service contract Variable oil rate of $2.999 - $3.149
Romanelli & Son $115 service contract $2.999 lock in price $40 referral bonus
Slomins (who I'm with now) $165 service contract $2.899 lock in price Variable Rate of 35 cents off per gallon for the going rate of the day Called a second time and got them to lower my service plan from $165 to $119
I have a call into Lewis Oil. If anyone else has done some calling recently, please post!
UPDATE 1-20-10 I called Slomins back and said that I was going to switch to another company and they offered me a lock in of $2.799 thru 7-20-10 (at which point I can lock-in again - which is better b/c oil prices are cheaper in the summer). My service contract is now $140+ tax (better than the $165+tax I was paying). So, we're staying with Slomins!

Re: Some prices from oil companies I called today
I called tragar last week and it was variable with the cap at $2.89!!?!
And don't pay for a service contract the first year with anybody!! They should always give you that for free!

Re: Some prices from oil companies I called today
Thank you SO much for posting this. I'm in the market for a new company. I'd be interested in what Lewis oil tells you. I also agree....free service contract 1st year. What did they say the service contract includes?

Huh, we don't pay for our contract at all. We are in year 2 now. We have a variable rate, though. With Abalene, who are awesome.

Re: Some prices from oil companies I called today
I know alot of you hate slomins but i just locked in with them for one year at 2.649. this INCLUDES the contract of 109.00 or something like that. if you don't want the contract on your heating system, then it's 2.549. HOWEVER, you must go to roosevelt field (or smithhaven mall) kiosk. it's only a deal at those locations.
hence the reason i am so pizzed that i got a drop of 3.03 this past weekend.

Re: Some prices from oil companies I called today
Thank you so much for posting this. Because of this information that you posted, I was able to get Meenan down from $3.85 Ceiling to $2.99 Ceiling. It is obscene what they will do to a customer that won't haggle or doesn't know better.
Also, I was able to get a credit of $160 for my service contract. They were charging me $280/year for Burner, Boiler, and additional Tank Coverage!!!! (Was I a dummy or what?)
It took a few calls back and forth, as well as some negotiating but I got them down. By the way this reflects today's (1/13/10) prices.

Re: Some prices from oil companies I called today
Lewis Oil sent me an email and offered:
$2.599 for oil through April 2010 Silver Service Contract $59 or Gold Service for $99 (did not explain the difference).
I've left repeated messages for the salesperson to call me back, because obviously I want to know what happens to my oil price after April!

Called Slomins back and asked about the service contract and she lowered it from $165 + tax to $119 + tax.

We have used Marran Oil for MANY years. Not sure of their price as we are on budget but we pay $0 for a service contract.

Re: Some prices from oil companies I called today - UPDATE
bummer ;( Im with Meenan and the Service contract is $169 and the oil cap they want to give us now is $3.62
...Im not happy at all.
Anyone knows if you have to have contract and oil delivery with the same company??
Can we keep the contract till it expires and just get oil delivery from whomever has lower rate?
Thanks.

The only problem I have with this scenario was you are paying for a year contract, yet you are only locking in for 6 months.
Slomins offered me the same type of deal once, and I said no. Mainly because if you want to leave Slomins after 6 months, they are not going to prorate and refund the rest of your service contract back to you. At least I don't think they will. Sort of means you are locked in with them.

Oil is not cheaper in the summer. People travel in the summer and the prices go up with demand.

That's a fantastic deal. I probably should have called Petro. Oh well.
I guess I could still call them since i'm not locked in to anybody, but I already had my first oil delivery at $2.55 so I would be missing out on that $1.99/gallon deal.

Re: Some prices from oil companies I called today - UPDATE
You wont have to pay for a service contract if you stay away from the big names, like Petro and Meehans. We locked Franks Oil, no service contract fee and 2.90 ceiling (around Christmas). We have had some issues with our burner and they have been out to service twice since we signed, at no cost.
