some people can be so weird
I am a SAH mom so since my DH is home on the weekends and my MIL is available too, I decided to find a babysitting job on Saturdays or Sundays(b/c we need money), so this morning some woman called me form Manhattan she is a CEO of some company and works full time and her husnband is a doctor and they are looking for a babysitter WITH LONGTIME EXPERIENCE and PERFECT references, so I told her I have almost 10 YEARS experience working with children in NYC and I am asking for $10-$15 per hour and she went nuts, she said they can only pay $7 per hour and want someone form 7am to 11pm . I don't understand people, they want everything and don't want to pay for it, and who the hell wants to work from5-11 for $7 per hour??????especially with my experience???( I am just so frustrated ,I didn't know it was so hard to find a weekend babysiting job so I am just venting.)

And especially caring for kids all that time which is a lot more demanding than most jobs. Some people are very driven by money and don't want to part with a single dollar that they don't have to. I would think she'd have a problem getting that - Mother's Helpers get that, sometimes more.

Just an idea...have you/would you waitress? I'm a teacher, but during the summer I always waitress with a private caterer to earn some extra money...I can work a few hours, earn great money and I actually enjoy it (most of the time)...

When do they get to see their kids? I'm a working mom and though I love my job and choose to work, I relish my mornings, evenings and weekends so I can spend time with DD. I'm sorry for the seemingly judgemental question, but I don't understand how they ever see their kids with this arrangement.

I agree. and that lady sounds crazy for not accepting your pay requirements. I thought you should have asked for more for weekend babysitting.

That's rediculous. If they want that much experience then they will have to pay. When I started to read your post and saw how much you were going to charge her - I thought that you were being generous.
I they want to pay $7 then they need to hire a college student.

I am wondering if maybe they want someone to take care of the kids when they are home. Were you planning tho go their home to babysit?
I think that $10-$15 an hour is very reasonable for babysitting on the weekend.

Daycare teachers in LI are getting $11/hour. My mom has a regular babysitting job for an infant 3 days a week for $15/hour
Not a chance you should take it for under $10.

Don't waste your time with that lady. The right one will come along.
BUT....I do agree with the waitressing idea. I would do it in a heartbeat if I had someone to watch my baby.

Well, she'll get what she paid for, and she'll probably beyotch about the horrible care her bargain babysitter will provide. Sounds like a PITA, you are better off not working for her.

I agree also. And if they are looking to hire someone at $7 hour I would be leary of the quality of babysitter. You may be able to get a college student for that amount but if you want someoene with good experience they are going to need to loosen the grip on their wallet.

my DH has ran resturants all over...FL, NY, NC.
Just look clean going in there, have an availability of Friday, Sat, and Sun...throw in thursday if you can.
Just tell them you worked here and there in banquet halls and that you waited tables in college. They won't check and they will teach you everything you need to know.
Sometimes they would rather people with clean slates.
