Some more baptism help
So money is tight and I wanted to do a small dinner type thing after she is baptized.
I sat down to make the list and it's almost 100 people! I have a big family!
Now I don't know what to do. There are some people we know definitely wont come, and some people we could probably cut from the list, but it will still be 55-65 people.
Do you think it'd be cheaper to just do a Knights of Columbus type thing and rent it out? How does that work? Do we have to cater ourselves and then we'd need a dj right?
Any tips on cheap ways of doing this with so many people?
I'd love to cook myself and have a backyard thing, but she's going to be born any day now and I want to have her baptized soon and not wait until spring.
Ideas?? TIA

i would either cut the list so it's only immediate family and intimate friends. or wait until spring and do bbq.

I think KOC would probably end up cheaper but w/decorations and catering it will be more work I think.
I am due oct 3rd and although I know I should baptism DS w/i 3 months b/w holidays, my sil's shower/birth, and my parents being away the month of Feb. we are looking at doing the Christening in March. If doing a BBQ at your house would save money why not wait until April or May? (I know many people think it is too long to wait but I would rather not do it in the winter)

It gets hard with cutting people. Our immediate family is pretty big! And it's not even that many friends...just a few close ones.
I can get it to 69 adults, 7 kids.
Is that too many for a restaurant?

It's definitly something to consider. I think I will call places tomorrow to get pricing, and talk it over with my husband. It might be worth it to wait for the spring.

Usually. Some have caters they use or provide booze or waiters/bartenders think it depends on the place but what you said above is the typical set up.

I'm not sure where you're located but the Hibernian hall in Babylon is a good deal. I *think* it's $250 to rent one half of the hall which would suit up to 100 people. There is an in-house caterer who can do a buffet for about $11 or $12 a head and beer, wine and soda is around $7 a head. They provide a maitre 'd and bartender so you don't have to anything yourself other than decorations.

check out coral house - they have a room that is a minimum of 50 and holds about 80 - it was very inexpensive
