"soft claws"
Has anyone tried these on their cat? do they work?
I'm thinking about taking in a stray (I got the 'bug' because my mom just adopted a little stray last month)
Naturally - after months of waiting - we just got the call that our new living room furniture is going to be delivered this weekend. I would hate for a new kitty to destroy what we get.
I'm really hoping that good training and perhaps these 'soft claws' can help us avoid the "D" word

Re: "soft claws"
I haven't used them, but a friend of mine was going to get them for her cat, but the vet told her that they don't reall stay on - the cat will chew them off. What you should do is get a scratching post, put catnip on it, and show him to scratch on it. If he is a younger cat, he should take to it pretty quickly. If he tries to scratch on the furniture, tell him no and either spray him with a water bottle or shake a can with some coins in it. Then show him the scratching post. You can get protectors for the furniture if he does try to scratch. These will also deter him from scratching because they won't feel nice for him.

Re: "soft claws"
I get it - thanks for the tip. I didn't realize that you can put stuff on the couch too.
I already plan on using the water bottle and can technique. He is still a young cat, so this may work. I also plan on keeping him in a confined area (away from furniture) at first, because I'm pretty sure he has fleas and ear mites from being outside.

Re: "soft claws"
I agree that soft claws don't really work. I trim my cats' nails every 2 weeks. My cats have about 10 scratching posts and they still occasionally 'scratch' on the furniture, but since their claws are so dull from me trimming them, it doesn’t do any damage. If you get them used to having their nails trimmed young it's fairly easy.

Re: "soft claws"
I haven't used them, but to be honest I have a scratching post and they only use that, if you train the cat to use the post you won't need the soft claws

Re: "soft claws"
I wanted to put them on the cat for the dog's safety. The puppy loves the cat, sometimes. However, Chilly who is 6 is terratorial and is POed at the dog for coming here. She is so mean to hear and will hiss and growl at her and puppy has no clue what that means. I wanted the claws for help with the two of them. Any other suggestions for cat claws???? Thanks!

Re: "soft claws"
I used them a few years ago. Mac has always had a scratching post and used it, but then he started to scratch the furniture. They lasted on him a while. I think I did 2 "rounds" of them. After the 2nd round, he didn't scratch the furniture anymore and went back to using his scratching post.
I can see how many I have left and mail them to you if you want.

I use them on my dog. She has no fur, so when she scratches she really hurts herself. They work very well.
