Anyone have an easy way to do it without using a sock? It didn't work for me.

I saw these like mesh ring things at H & M near the cash register that you use instead of a sock.

I have one of those. It's okay, if you want a big bun this wouldn't work. It's good in a pinch!

Pinterest has a lot of tutorials how to get the effect w/o using a sock.

I have one of these from H&M that's fairly large. I had to cut it down, but I know they have the smaller ones now.

Re: Sock buns

I think I saw those mesh rings at WalMart just the other day but I was wondering if you don't do it just right, won't some of the mesh show?

I usually just put my hair in a high pony
thread the tail through the sock
Fan out the tail over the sock. Covering the sock with your hair
Take another hair tie and put around the base of the sock
Wrap any loose ends around the base and secure with bobby pins.

I have this !!! And it works GREAT !

I guess it really depends on the length of your hair .. I have pretty long hair.. I bought this a few weeks ago but before thatI was using one of my FH's socks.. It really is easy , you just have to play with it sometimes..

Perfect on a day like today when the humidity is like 100% and my hair would be a huge poof ball !!!

I can't roll my hair with the sock. That is a talent in itself LOL I found this short cut:

External Image

This is what I do with my rolled up sock.. with Step 3 I put a hair tie around the base of the hair. then I just pin the strands underneath the bun.I run my fingers through my head to fluff/soften it and make it less severe.

I also have layers and I tease my hair first.

I used one of DH's dress socks that was missing its mate. I cut the toe off and rolled up.

They sell foam bun makers on ebay for like $2. They come from HK and work great. They are long with a slit in the middle, the hair goes in the slit, then you roll it up, twist and voila. I used them for my daughter for ballet. I can find the link to one if anyone is interested. I have tried those mesh things, but they never come out right for me.

I'd love the link. I bought the mesh one and I can't hide the mesh for some reason.

Sorry can't link on tablet. The large is probably what you want. I use the small on my dd for pigtail buns, so that might be too small.

Keep in mind the shipping takes about 10 day since they come from HK. I have ordered a lot of HK stuff on ebay, and never have issues!

Oh and I never wrap the ends into a hair tie like one of the pics shows, and it works just fine since all of the hair rolls right up.

Thanks! Looks easy enough to use.
