Social Worker before IVF??

was anyone required to see a Social Worker that specializes in Infertility before IVF?
My RE said it was a requirement....and its not covered??

Yes we had to go. It was $140 for the session. For some I could see how it might be helpful. There are a lot of decisions to make that you and DH have to make together.

I asked the therapist if there was ever an instance that someone decided noot to go forward with it based on the meeting and she told me sometimes people dont really think about what to do with left over embryos and then they cant make up their minds. After the session, they decided to postpone the procedure.
She also said that one time she uncovered in the session that both individuals weree married-to different people!! obviously she did no recommend IVF to the doctor. ITs meant to be helpful... it was annoying that we had to pay $140 to discuss things that DH and I already discussed at length.

I feel the same...after 5 yrs of Infertility I don't think we need to sit with someone else and discuss it some more...I guess its also paying OOP and sitting with someone who doesn't know me thats annoying me......am I wrong for feeling this way?

And does the RE ask for proof?
I feel like I have more important preparations to do than this!! lol

You're not wrong at all for feeling this way. I was annoyed too!

the RE didn't ask me for proof but I think its because the social worker sent it to him.

Today was my first time..I really did like him

I am just so crazed at all these things I need to do prior to IVF.
I have so many tests he needs to me to do..
after leaving him today I went to Quest and had 14 vials of blood drawn..
and he wants me to do the glucose test..another day....
ect ect ect...lol

Oh Jeez..hope these months fly by!

do you have GHI? Have you been seeing him for a long time?

We are actually meeting with the social worker tomorrow night.... I am not loking fwd to it I think it's a complete waste of time!

They gave us a checklist that was really helpful. By nature Im an extremely organized person so of course i loved having a list!! lol
Also, Ive been researching so much because I feel like having more knowledge about things calms my anxiety.
I like Dr Brenner and I IVF very much. They're office is organized, efficient and very nice. I have nothing bad to say about them at all.
I started seeing him in May after my gyn referred us to him when DH's SA came back poor. We have 4 failed IUIs so this is naturally the next step.

When's your next appointment? Im going in tomorrow morning.

I dont have another appt....not until AF shows or I take provera to bring her on!! They will be calling me tomorrow to let me know...

I will def keep you posted...
I will be going to the Lake Sucess office it is closer to me.

I go to the Lake Success office also! I thought the social worker visit was a waste of time also for me and DH, only because we had already discussed every possible scenario. But I do see where it can be helpful for other couples.
