Soccer classes for toddlers?

Does anyone know of any soccer classes on long Island for toddlers? A friend of mine told me that I can sign DS up as early as 3 years old.

Re: Soccer classes for toddlers?

It's probably Soccer tots. They have a bunch of locations on LI and they can do it year round bc it's indoors. Do a google search, I'm not sure of their web address.

Re: Soccer classes for toddlers?

Well, I just went on their site and to be honest their class descriptions were alright...it kind of reminds me of a gymboree class description, not too much soccer to it.

If anyone has went to soccer tots please let me know what you thought of the classes as far as learning about soccer.

Re: Soccer classes for toddlers?

I haven't been there so I can't vouch for the class itself but I do have an almost 3 year old and I cannot imagine how much they can truly learn about the sport at this age unless it's in short spurts and built into an all around fun class, KWIM? I know my older son played actual soccer at 4 and even then, the kids were all over the place with their concentration, interest, skills, etc. My DS was upset the first day bc someone else had the ball. I think it's probably a good intro into the concept.

Re: Soccer classes for toddlers?

We signed up for a soccer tots class here and it was a total nightmare, the kids did not have any sense of attention span to follow the instructors, my son just sat on a chair laughing. The parents were all yelling at their kids, the instructors had no idea of how to capture the imagination of a bunch of 3 year olds. I personally think 3 year olds are WAY too young for this kind of thing, but that is just from my experience. My son did look cute in the kit though! In the end it was cancelled and we got our money back for the remaining classes. Never again with a 3 year old!

Re: Soccer classes for toddlers?

Soccer Tots has programs for as young as 18 months.

I haven't done it .. but I can tell you that they offer it at ISA in Sayville and that I've only had wonderful experiences with ISA and their staff!

Re: Soccer classes for toddlers?

My son LOVED his 'class' and his coach. They didn't really go in depth into teaching soccer, but they played games using soccer balls, warming up excercises, did obstacle courses, learned to dribble the ball and kick the ball into the net to score. His coach was a young guy, energetic an kept the kids laughing an having fun the whole time. DS looked forward to going each week & it was a fun time for him and I loved going to watch!

In East Meadow they start the soccer program at 3.5 years old. At least that is what I was told.

Re: Soccer classes for toddlers?

Hmm, I had no idea that they had programs starting at 18 months for kids. I'm surprised DH doesn't know this since he's a soccer coach Chat Icon

Bragging mom here, but DD is really good at dribbling a soccer ball, it would be cute to get her in a little (relaxed) program. Hmm...

Re: Soccer classes for toddlers?

East Meadow Soccer Club starts at I think 3 and a half. I think the child has to be turning 4 by a certain date. 3 years old is young to start learning. It's more of just an outlet for kids to run around and introduce soccer. So I would think a place like soccer tots would be ok.
