So there's a dusting of snow...
...on the ground today (really just on the grassy areas) and they CLOSED SCHOOLS IN THE ENTIRE REGION
But I have some errands to run since I'm not feeling up to going to the gym to walk (my hip is killing me)... if they think it's unsafe for buses out there today, should the born-and-bred NYer who's 9 months preggo stay home too???
Oh... my friend just texted that the roads where she is are completely covered in ice. They don't clear roads down here at all. I live off a major road and the store I want to go to is 2 miles away on that same road. I don't want to be careless or ballsy, but there's some food I really would like in the house. Blech... I miss living across the street from the grocery store in Brooklyn sometimes. (Not often, just sometimes...)

Re: So there's a dusting of snow...
Well DH insisted I stay home on Tuesday when we got 2". My doctor had told me not to commute to work if it snows so I don't risk falling. I felt silly, but better safe than sorry. There were accidents all over place. When it's the first snowfall of the season, it's like NYers forget how to drive in the snow. If the roads are icy, I wouldn't risk it. Do any of your food stores deliver?

Re: So there's a dusting of snow...
that kills me!!! esp. since i went to college in the Buffalo area where power had to be out in order for schools to be closed.
One thing I will say though is that towns that are not used to snow do NOT know how to handle it. The roads are always a little more icy. So if you do decide to go out, be extra careful!

Re: So there's a dusting of snow...
I wouldnt chance it Sandra. I know how annoying it is to want to go out when you cant. I remember about 5 years ago I moved my sister to NC not far from you and there was a storm and everything was ice cause like you said they dont have plows and sanders down there. We were stuck for like 3 days before everything was able to melt and the roads were clear.

My DH went to school up there too. He told me of a time when it started snowing so hard that people left their cars on the highway.
But Sandra, I would not chance it. Order some take out if you are hungry.

I wouldnt chance it. Its not only the condition of the roads that would bother me, but the idiots who dont know how to drive in the snow.

Re: So there's a dusting of snow...
I took a road trip to South Carolina one December and they closed the roads and everything down for 1.5 inches of snow! It was ridiculous, but so many cars were pulled over. I don't think certain states are prepared for it. Then one vacation we were up in Niagra Falls in December and people said we were crazy. You never knew it snowed inches every night b/c they were so prepared to clear roads in the morning. Enjoy your snow day!

Re: So there's a dusting of snow...
Thanks everyone for looking out for me!!
The snow actually turned to rain a few minutes after I posted this, and DH called and said it was perfectly clear on the one road he works on (which is the one we also live on, and where he wanted to meet up for lunch) so I went out, and it was crazy. No one on the roads, but the roads were completely ice-free! I even went to the grocery store and got a bunch of things that were on my mind and I wanted in the house.
I now have way more toilet paper than ANYONE needs in their home at one time. I don't know why, but fear of running out of toilet paper is always high up on my list of "what if I can't go anywhere for two months." I also bought about 6 cans of canned tomatoes since I noticed yesterday I'd run out.
I think I'm going crazy. I also spent the whole car ride back talking to the baby in my belly, telling her about how pretty the trees look with the little white dusting on them, and how it would be great for her to get here soon so she can see them.
I feel so happy right now I don't even know why!
