So, our dr's visits didn't go as I had hoped
First I took DS to the ped. urologist Dr. Palmer yesterday. As I have mentioned before, when they did DS's circumcision in the hospital they didnt take enough skin. The ped. said to give it time to see if he "grows into it" but he hasn't...he still has extra skin although not as much. Dr. Palmer said he would always have that extra skin and that he can re-circumsize him if I want. I am TERRIFIED of putting him under general anesthesia...I thought hey may be able to just sedate him a little and use the funny mask but he can't DH and I are torn. We want to do it so it looks better since it looks half done...but we would never forgive ourselves if something god forbid happened with the anesthesia all for a vein reason, KWIM? I know a few other mom's on here I have spoken to had the same thing and had it repared with positive results...i am just nervous.
After DS's appt. I had to see a general surgeon regarding the umbilical hernia I developed after having DS. Apparently umbilical hernia are congenital (you're born with it) and some can go their whole lives with no problems, however, women are more prone to having problems after giving birth etc. It is a tiny little gum ball size behind my belly button that doesnt stick out or hurt but the dr. recommended I get it fixed before getting preggo again b/c he said as my abdomen expands during the pregnancy, the lump will get bigger and could cause some complications. Fortunately it is an out-patient procedure, no general anesthesia. Just some local anesthesia and some drugs to make me feel good
So as of now, both DS and I are scheduled for our surgeries mid-November...I just am not 100% sure about DS though.

I'm sorry!!!
That's a tough call with DS. What exactly does it look like? I always feel that Thomas has more skin than he should but the dr. never said anything and I never asked.
Good luck with your surgery!

Lucas had an umbilical hernia when he was born and so far the doctor's say it's gone....what you posted was very interesting about your situation...not that Lucas will give birth but it makes me want to open the topic back up.
We'll be keeping you and Tyler in our for November!

My neighbor's daughter has an umbilical hernia as well. She is 4 now and the ped. said if it doesnt close by the time she is 5 they will have to repair it.
Apparently it is not uncommon to have a small slit or hole there after you are born, but it should close on it's own within the first few yeasrs. In a few cases (of course mine ) it didnt. The dr. asked me if anyone else in my family had hernia problems b/c they tend to be hereditary...I told him not that I know of. But they could and not even know it.
ETA: Ang, I would keep an eye on it b/c hernia's are also more common in boys. Now the dr. told me to keep an eye on DS as well although he has no signs of one.

I am so sorry you have to go through this. Tough decision for your DS. I know my nephew just went through this recently, and they were going to recirc. him. But between his parents and doc, they decided not to. It is just such a hard call, and only you and DH can do that. I want to send MANY hugs to you, I know I would agonize over the decision too!

So sorry thing did not go as you had hoped at TJ's appt. I can totally understand both the hesitation and the wanting to do it. I keep getting the same answer from our ped re: Troy's circumcision (to wait and see).

It will be fine. But I know how hard it can be to deal with anyway.

So tough. I understand what you're going through as DS has surgery in a few days and I have my thrid postpartum surgery 2 weeks after that. It's like it never ends.

Re: So, our dr's visits didn't go as I had hoped
Hey Crissy-my coworker has three sons and for one of them they did not remove enough skin. Her ped's recommendation was to just leave it alone and let him make the decision when he is older. He is now 12 and he has realized that his "doesn't look like it should" -she told him that he could have it taken care of if he wanted and he has no desire. He may still "grow in to it" he is still very little.
