so nervous...
We are driving to GA next weekend... We are leaving @ 4am Sat morning, and its about a 14hrs drive. We are driving straight through- we at least attemptin too (taking as many stops as needed).
We will be visiting family, looking @ property, and meeting Miss Shana, and princess Alyson
The we will be leaving Thursday 4am- driving to MD, and staying there 3 days (visiting my sil- and breaking up the drive), then coming home!
Im soooo nervous about the car ride with the baby....He is SOOOO good in the car... but thats because the min. we get in- he falls asleep! Is he gonna sleep the entire day away in the car... and then stay up all night???? Im so freaked out about this!
Any suggestions?

Re: so nervous...
One thing I'd get is a podee (hands free feeding system) for the car ride. You can do the DVD in the car (Baby Einstein, etc) but I think the more important thing is to stop & have him out of his car seat so he's not cramped in the same position.

Re: so nervous...
My friend drove with her daughter from NY to Texas. They started driving in the early evening, so the baby slept most of the way that night. But the next day she said that they had to make a few more stops then they planned because she was a bit cranky and they needed to get out of the car. She brought books, toys, a DVD player and plenty of juice/snacks.
Wow...looking at Georgia property...that's a long way from you know who...

Re: so nervous...
Don't be nervous! I'm sure you'll do fine!
Aidans longest car ride was 5 1/2 hours and was also about the same time 5 months old. He is also very good in the car. He fell back to sleep once we got on the road when he woke up we stopped for his breakfast and to stretch. The awake time in the car he would play with various small toys and look out the window. I would expect to stop every few hours so he (and you!) could stretch out, diaper change, have snack, etc.
Have a great trip!

Re: so nervous...
We just did the drive to Florida and went straight through. It took us about 16 hours. We left at 10 pm and Justin slept so much, more than he ever does at home. It was a good trip!
Coming home he was up a little more, but we just made extra stops to feed him. I nurse and did not pump at all for the ride home, that would have been easier.
Good luck!

Re: so nervous...
we are planning to drive to florida with Jillian.. ( i know we are crazy.. but it us easter week and my nieces 1st birthday and planning to see my BF who lives in NC ) and i know she is much older but we are planning to move the car seat to behind Dh so that she can see me and leave the seat free so i can jump into and play with her..and we are NOT doing it in one day anyway and are planning to make lots of stops
So i would leave the seat behind you free so you can jump into the back seat to play when he startes to get cranky and you can keep him awake.. Have fun

Re: so nervous...
My boys only used a podee for about 7 months. I loved them!!! But they take some getting used to so start him now.. You can buy them at babies r us in the sippy isle. They arent near the bottles. They sell a kit that you can use with a standard bottle or you can buy the whole bottle at Buybuy baby. Good luck on your trip!! We did a 2 Boston trip (5hours) when they were 5 months and they did great. Have fun!

Re: so nervous...
My friend uses the Ponde and she got it at BRU.
We drove to Pittsburgh for New Years and we drove at night. We left at midnight and drove thru the night. Hayley slept the entire time and her days/nights were not mixed up. We did the same thing on the way home too, drove thru the night.
