So many questions....

So I met with my RE on Sat am after taking my 2nd round of Clomid (100 mg). He said I had one mature follicle and that I should ovulate by Tuesday. If I didn't then I should call.......well it's Monday and it does not look like I'm going to ovulate by tomorrow (according to the super ovulation kit by cBE that tells you if you're low, high or peak). I'm upset that not only can this time be a waste, but over the fact that even on these drugs I may not ovulate. My first questions is that how late can I ovulate after finishing Clomid (Fri was my last day)???

My second question is: what to do next if this doesn't work? My RE said If this doesn't work this month he offered me the option of switching to Femara or doing injectables. I don't know what to do. We are also going to try IUI next time along with either the Femara or injectables. What are your thoughts here? Which gives me better odds, what are the pros and cons? This is so new to me and I don't know which way to go in this.

Sorry this is so long. Thanks for your help and guidance!

Re: So many questions....

I'm not familiar with your history, but if you don't naturally ovulate, then your RE should be triggering you (injection that causes you to O about 40 hours later). It seems he's waiting to see if you'd O on your own, and if you don't, they will give you a trigger. Personally, I'd ask for a trigger every month. I never had a problem Oing but my RE still gave me a trigger every month to ensure timing was correct.

For your second question - Femara is another kind of pill, similar to Clomid. However, everyone responds differently so you may get better/more follies with Femara than Clomid. Or you may not. Nobody can tell you how YOU will respond until you try it. I personally only ever had 1 follie from Clomid and I moved right onto injectables after 2 months of clomid. On injectables I had 3 mature follies...one of which is now my 4 month old son! If you're unsure of your next move, ask the RE. That's what you're paying them for! But first, see if this month works...you never know!

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks for that info. I did O last month after the Clomid which is probably why he is waiting. I will definitely ask about a trigger if I don't O by Wednesday. As for the Femara, I am leaning towards doing the injectables instead of the pill to speed things up a bit. Are there any side effects from the injectables I should be aware of?

Re: So many questions....

How long are your cycles? I typically have a 30 day cycle and I surge like clockwork lately at cd13 in the afternoon /evening. That is 5 days after I finish Clomid. Maybe he thought you will surge by tues? Technically you only need the trigger if you don't ovulate on your own. I have had it twice out of 6 x on Clomid. It isn't necessary but it does give you an better idea on timing. I found that one month I surged at 7 pm and I ovulated by 645 the next day and I only found out b/c I had a sono scheduled. I had to have my IUI right then and there! Thank god DH was with me that day to provide a sample. My point is everyone is different. We can all give you advice but it doesn't mean it will happen for you that way. Same with your RE. He is learning your body right now. I wouldn't worry if you didn't get a smiley today. Worst case is they will order you a trigger and you will most def ovulate. When did you surge last month? (Sorry so long)

hey I am in a similar boat and feeling frustrated that I cant O either! I did one month of Clomid with no response and my RE recommended either Femara or injectables. I just finished my last pill on Femara and will go for monitoring later this week -- fingers crossed that there are some follies! If it works I am planning to try for IUI with the Femara, and if the Femara doesnt work I am planning to go onto injectables with IUI next month. I hear you about being concerned about wasting another month with another pill -- I was feeling the same way, but truthfully we dont have prescription coverage for IF meds and I have heard that the injectables are very pricey so to us it was worth it to try one more month of oral meds before moving on. I am trying to stay optimistic that we'll see some results from the Femara, but otherwise just planning to start the injectables next month.

I know its a tough decision and hard to figure out whether you're wasting time, etc. -- best of luck to you and I hope whatever move you go for next is a success!! :)

Re: So many questions....

u could def still ovulate, but if u do not i would do a trigger next time

it all depends ur comfort level,if u want to try to produce more follies u could def try femara or femara with injectables

the iui gives u slightly better odds

i would try one more clomid or femara with a iui and a trigger..see how u respond to that then i would talk injectables
