So I have the theme for DS' 1st bday, now what?

Help me please. We have decided to use a safari theme for DS' 1st bday. I found a safari guide outfit at Janie and Jack for DS to wear when he greets his guests. I took this as a sign that safari was meant to be.

Fast forward, I'm stuck. I am so not creative. What other creative ways can I incorporate the safari theme into his bday party (i'd rather not have safari plates, etc)

I have this grand vision in my head but i don't know how to make it a reality.

TIA!

ETA: I'm leaning towards having it in our backyard. It's in October so we'll likey have a tent.

Well, the first thought I had was green table cloths, with net draped in the middle, with some "safari" animals (monkey, elephant, tiger, etc) as centerpieces

You could also use tiger/leopard print table cloths and solid yellow/green plates & cups

Activities:
-Pin the Trunk on the Elephant
- Safari Hunt (hide small animals/beanie babies)
- Decorate your own safari hat
- Face Painting (choose from safari-related themes)
- Reptile Petting Zoo

You could do a candy/treat bar as a favor...rename the treats...like Gummy Worms become Mini Anacondas, Raisins become Dried Ants, Peanuts are Elephant treats, etc....

Ask pinkandblue, I think she is doing a safari theme for her DS's first birthday too.

I am doing a monkey theme for DDs 3rd birthday.

I'm going to try to do monkey cupcakes.

I have a few monkey related games in the works-a monkey hunt (you could do a safari hunt), a variation of pin the tail on the monkey, stuff like that.

I bought monkey masks for the kids.

You can do different animal visors/masks instead of birthday hats:

Or animal masks-just pick out the safari animals and maybe save the zoo/farm ones for another time:

You could use something like this for centerpieces:

Goodie bags:

They have safari animal cutouts here You can use them for decoration or make a pin the tail game out of it...

rent an exotic animal petting zoo, of course! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

are you doing it outside? do you have a garden?

maybe you could get blow up monkey's/tigers/elephants etc and place them in the bushes or under the porch etc. make the place the jungle.

Oh my goodness, what fantastic ideas! Please keep them coming, please. I'm not kidding when I say I'm not creative. I dread the time when DS is into arts and crafts. I swear i'm going to have to take a class.

My cousin just had a Safari theme 1st party for her DS.

Centerpieces were jungle print gift bags with zebra, giraffe, cheetah print balloons attached. Instead of ribbon she used "vine's" to hold the balloons. REALLy CUTE!

She had plastic blown up monkey's, giraffe's, zebra's, tiger's and other safari animals decorating the hall. Some monkeys were hanging from the ceilings.

She had chocolate bars wrapped with a Zoo admission ticket for each guest at the tables.

The birthday boy was dressed as a zoo keeper.

VERY CUTE theme!

ETA: these are the bags she used to hold the balloons and these are the inflatable zoo animals. Oriental Trading has a lot stuff!
