so how do you make time for it all?

So I am almost done with my first week of work and I am working alot more hrs then im used to.. im struggling to figure out how to juggle it all.... working, going to the gym, food shopping, laundry..running errands here and there and most importantly having some relaxination time or being with my friends and bf, i literally feel like im on a fixed schedule.. and i dont even have kids! HOW ON EARTH WOULD I DO THIS IF I EVEN CAME HOME TO A BUSSELING HOUSE.. i assume u hafta let things go--maybe the house isnt as clean, or maybe ur not as "fit" as u wish u were..but my lord im having a lot of trouble balancing.. im hoping now that this week is over--and the newness of the job is settling in I can get more of my schedule organized.. my main concern is fitting in "gym time" I am just sooo tired but due to some stomach issues I have I must work out at least 3 times aweek for an hr, and thats pure minimum :::SIGH:: not enough hrs in the day ya know...

i think once you settle into a schedule at work, it will be easier. stuff that takes you an hour now will take 15 minutes in a few months. i clean a little each day, so i am not swamped on the weekend. sunday is for food shopping and laundry- but i drop mine off at the laundromat, so all i have to do is put it away when i get it back. if i keep to that general routine- i can get to the gym for an hour every day. (i am just usually too lazy!)

it is hard. That's why I can't imagine what the moms that I work with do.

Once you get adjusted to work, traveling and set in your ways there you'll see something that took you an hour will take you a lot less and you'll develop shortcuts for yourself. Emails I send often I have saved a generic form of it in word and each time I need to send the email I just copy and paste. It cuts down a tremendous amount of time in typing out emails. I also use code when I am documenting things. It's things everyone knows like airport codes or instead of writing cancel I just write XLD, messages is msg, etc...

For around the house I do a little each day this way come Saturday the only thing really major to do is disinfect. It's just hubby and I. Our meals we cook on Sundays and mondays and put it all in containers so lunch is just grab your container and go. Dinner is just a reheat. I get home at 8 from work so I just do quick and easy meals.

When I get home from work on Satuday I start with the laundry and do cleaning so that leaves my Sunday and Mondays open.

Sundays and Mondays I do all my errands. Get nails done, go to the allergist, go food shopping, work in the yard, and relax.

Once you are fully adjusted in the job you'll be able to manage everything else.

yes you have to settle into a routine...but honestly...my grandma gave me the best advice..she said just do what you can. do the best you can. otherwise it gets too overwhelming! so while i try to get everything done, i keep that in mind and try not to totally push myself over the edge!

Very easy we give up the gym, build our arm muscles by lifting up toddlers & get a fat tush.

You will definetly get into a routine after awhile...we all feel that there is not enough hours in the day. Sometimes you have to prioritize what you have to do and feel OK leaving things for the next day or the weekend! You will do fine!!!

after some time you get into a routine. You also learn to make the most of your time, for me it's during the week, so I can relax more on weekends & not waist my time with laundry and such.

Plus you can do some of the stuff with your BF right? Like staying fit together?

Well...for me, I get home from work around 5:30. DH picks up DD at the after-school program and gets home around 5. He usually gets her started on her homework and gets the dog and the cats fed....sometimes he starts dinner. When I get home, I make dinner...we eat around 6-6:30. Clean up dinner...DD then has to shower/study while DH usually takes out the garbage and then hangs out with the dog in the garage doing god knows what Chat Icon

DD is in bed at 8...reading a book until 8:30. This is when I finally get a chance to sit and relax...I will usually knit while I watch TV for awhile.

For housework...I have a cleaning lady...there is no way I can have time to clean. I do laundry Friday nights (fun!)...and we spend mostly Saturday's running errands. Grocery shopping is usually done on Sundays and then we start all over again!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thats practically my routine too. Including the cleaning the lady. Well she is actually my nanny but she cleans my house and picks my kids up from school. The only thing that bugs me is when I have to make dinner. we eat anywhere from 6:30-8 depending on what I make even if I prepare it in advance. The kids pretty much wait a half hour after dinner to go to bed this way they can digest their food. Its sad really how soon after dinner I have to send them to bed

I work out at 6:15am, on busy weeks that I want my evenings free...but it's tough because I go to bed between 11 & 12. But on weeks that I don't have much going on I go when I get home from work at like 6 or 7.

I try to keep things straightened up everyday and then vacuum and such on Sunday.

I only see my boyfriend once during the week and then one or two nights on the weekend so I honestly plan my workouts around when I am going to see him. Im in manahatten, he's on LI so this is the best we can do now.

I don't clean as much as I should. We tend to eat out or do shortcut meals too if I am feeling a little overwhelmed. I have also learned to let some things go. If the choice is to spend my whole weekend cleaning and doing laundry, or part of the weekend doing that and part doing something fun with DH or friends, I do a bit of each and live with not having everything else exactly as I would like.

It's even harder to do all that with a baby and TWO jobs (one full/one part). There is no such thing as "me" time and the only social life I get to engage in, is one virtually and very rarely in real time. I haven't seen a gym since I can't tell you and I have to live "low maint" becasue there simply isn't time for anything else.

Michi...it will get easier and you'll fall into a schedule. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: so how do you make time for it all?

I also have kids-2 of them. I get off at 5, pick up my son while my dh picks up our daughter. We usually get home about the same time. If he is home earlier and we are limited for time, he will start dinner. Otherwise, I start dinner as I am reading the mail and looking over my dd's homework for the night. We eat, my dh will give the kids a bath while I clean up. I then iron clothes for everyone, get my dd's lunch ready, get my breakfast ready and tend to everyone's needs-lol! My son goes to bed at 7 and if my dd and dh is not on the computer, I will go on for about an hour. I will watch TV and clean up the house until 11 and then go to bed. I LOVE Friday and Sat. nights because I don't have to get everything ready for the next day.
I do all the cleaning too, no cleaning lady here. We do the laundry whenever it gets too much in the hamper and I go food shopping on Sundays.
I am exhausted before I get to work in the morning getting everyone ready and out the door! BUT, I am EARLY to work when the single girls come in 15 minutes late!
