So how do I decline?
Ok we all know my MIL is a PITA-
But this is kinda unrelated- whenever there is a "day off" (I wont say holiday- because Christmas, Thanksgiving New Years etc are excluded- we see them those days regardless) She immediately makes plans for us- whether it be to go to their house, or another relatives house - she makes the plans and then tells us like a month in advance (ie:so we cant make other plans and/or get out of going)
It drives me crazy- I work 40-50+hrs/ week- and since I just started this new job- I have NO TIME OFF- the last thing I want to do on a day off is hang with my IL's...
Now keep in mind that- I see MIL everyday since she watches DS AND we go there every Friday for dinner (sometimes we have dinner with them 3 nights a week- the above is the min. we see them each week)
So for instance- I get an email today- stating she was talking to DH aunt- and they decided they we are gonna have a family BBQ labor day weekend...
Now I already have another BBQ and a shower that weekend- I respond saying just that- she says "well we havent set the date yet- so let me know- and we'll do it that day"
Im sorry- but its the only 3 day weekend I have/had for awhile- I dont wanna hang out with you- I either wanna hang with friends OR just relax at home with DS and DH...
How do I nicely say: Its my day off- and thats simply not what I wanna do????

Have your DH do it. Have him tell her you guys are having a family (just the 3 of you weekend) and that's that.

I would just be honest and say, "thanks for the invite, but it's a hectic weekend for us as it is and we planned on taking it easy one day. why don't you go ahead and make your plans and if things change on our end we'll drop by?"

I wish- Ive been trying to get it through to them that Sundays is our family day- but every week- we still get that call...

I would have your husband explain to his mother that the two of you would just prefer to sit home and relax since it's going to be such a busy weekend to begin with.
She will have to get over you three not being there.

This is what I do. I might even just start making things up so I have something to tell her. Unfortunately, pushy people seem to think they have a right to your time and don't seem to understand subtle excuses.
