so frustrated...
Hi Girls~ Sorry this is a long post but here goes... I had an iui fri & sat nov 16th & 17th.I did Clomid and then an hcg trigger the night before the iui. I am now in my 2ww. I had an appointment with my dr yesterday (he likes to meet to discuss tx options in case the pg test comes back neg so we can start a new cycle right away.) My doctor basically told me yesterday that my pg test sched for this fri will most likely be negative b/c I am part of the 5-7% of Clomid users that suffers negative side effects such as uterine lining thinning and the egg, if fertilized, cannot implant. Needless to say, I am crushed already b/c I have been so optimistic that this iui would work. Now my options are iui w/ injectables but dr. said there is a great chance of producing too many eggs or IVF. My insurance company (GHI) says I have to do 6 rounds of iui before they would even pay for IVF. This is so frustrating.

I dont understand how the negative side effects would change if you could get pregnant or not...Why would a dr. say that??? You can compensate for a thin lining by taking estrogen...I had the same issues but was never told that it would affect me from getting pregnant if it did work which for me it didnt...each IUI will give you around a 20% chance of working so I would continue doing them since you never know...who is your RE??? I would consider getting a 2nd opinion

Ive heard that about GHI before, some times you can fight them on it... but im not sure how that works. Good luck!!!

You doctor should have been monitoring your lining throughout the cycle and brought this to your attention BEFORE you triggered! He could have tried different methods to thicken your lining before triggering! 
Having said that .. what was thickness? Mine was in the 5s and I still got pregnant ...
eta: I wanted to add that when I had GHI, my RE at the time fought it so I could do IVF sooner. They originally said 12 IUI! I had done 6 ... It was originally denied but he fought it and it was approved soon after.

i'm not sure if injectibles has the same effect on the lining as clomid, but you may want to try that.
And as PPs have said -your doctor should be monitoring you to see where things are at.
Also, call your insurance company and clarify about the IUIs...mine made me do 3 clomid and 3 injectibles before approving IVF. you dont what to have to do 6 clomid and then find out that you have to do 3 more injectibles!

I have GHI and I had to do 6 IUI's no matter if it was with pills or injectables before I was approved for IVF but I think it depends on what your dx is as well and I know sometimes RE's fight to have it done before

I don't understand the jump to IVF. How many IUIs have you done? There are other drugs, like Femara, that tend to have fewer negative side effects, like thinning the lining. It's also possible to go on estrogen supplements if the lining is too thin.
Also, why not try injectables? They can put you on low dose and monitor you to ensure you don't produce too many follies.
Having done both IUIs and IVF, I'd want to exhaust all my IUI options before jumping into IVF. It's a big jump.

If the pg test is neg, I will move onto injectables w/ IUI for a couple of cycles. My dr also mentioned Femara w/ iui as a possibility as well. I am 36 and have been trying to get pg for well over a year. The dr basically said if it weren't for the insurance issue I would have 2 options: simple or quick. The "simple" is meds and iui and quick is ivf b/c there is a 60% chance of becoming pg rather than the usual 20-25% we all have any given month. I must admit, I am very happy with my doctor- he is compassionate and very thorough. He spent almost an hour with me yesterday explaining to me how this all works. I am just annoyed that our doctors know what course of action is best for us, yet the insurance company dictates what we are allowed to do. My dr said that although IVF is very involved for the patient, so is taking meds/injectables and constant monitoring. Its time consuming, expensive and exhausting! Sorry, I just needed to vent... thanks for listening.

I don't want to come off as insincere, but I wouldn't call IVF a "quick" solution. After testing is complete, a typical cycle will range from 6-8 weeks. And it doesn't always work. 60% still leaves 40% chance that it doesn't work - I fell into that 40%.

no advice except to echo what pennycat and ang said, that you can bypass the 6iui requirement with ghi depending on your diagnosos.i was able to and was approved the first time.

Agreed.... I think it's a huuuuge misconception that IVF is a quick fix and quite frankly it irks me when people say that. I did my first IVF in March of 2011 and have no living children. If IVF was really such a quick fix, many of us still on this board after years would not still be here.
Yes, the success rates are higher, but you can never be presumptuous in saying it will be a quick ride..........

By no means am I suggesting that IVF is a quick fix. I am nearly quoting my dr. For me, this is just all so overwhelming & I felt comfortable venting here on this chat board. I know that I just started my journey w/ infertility treatment & many girls here have been going through this much longer than me. I appreciate all the support & your comments. It's easier to discuss these emotions w/ all of you, whom I have never met, rather than friends I've had for 25 years! It's comforting to know I'm not alone.

i would def try femara and injectables bc had a good response to them after none to clomid
and also we bypassed the iui rule too,then it was 12 and we did 8 and my doc said no more and we did ivf
